This Blows

Electrocution hazards be damned, the good people of Westview show their support for our hardy runners. I'm sure the three lady runners in panel 2 are generic "extras", but damn if they don't look like (from left) Station Wagon Susan, some kid from A Charlie Brown Christmas, and the sorely-missed Chien.

  1. Brilliant observation. The two girls in panel three look like those twins in the purple dresses in "A Charlie Brown Christmas."

Is it me, or has TB surgically removed all the drama from this strip since Sue-icide left? I'm waiting for something dramatic (or even melodramatic) to happen. But I have been chronically disappointed. Ironic, since CRANKSHAFT for the past month has been about some little old lady hiding a letter from a roommate. Roomie is now a ghost and haunting the old lady. The problem is we don't know if the lady in imagining this, or if she is just nuts. Maybe TB doesn't even know. Or maybe he thinks the ghost is "real" one day and imaginary the next, sort of like Zombie Lisa.

I'd like to say something like this proves this strip is all wet… but then i'd have to go and hurt myself.

Can this week's arc get any stupider? We still have Saturday and Sunday to go, so all signs point to:

Yesterday I mentioned how difficult it was to believe that Westview residents could be as stupid as they're depicted as being. Well, I recant that statement after seeing the guy in the yellow raincoat standing in the pouring rain holding an electrical appliance with the cord resting against his bare leg. And he's smiling.

Cayla looks like she's had just about enough of Les saying “Lisa's Legacy Run” at every opportunity. As has everyone else. This premise has been stretched as far as the laws of comics physics will allow. I'm really interested in seeing how he's going to wring another rain joke out of this tomorrow, pun intended.

If this is a quarter-inch from reality, then Westiewers are a quarter-mile beyond stupid. The electrocution hazard is so obvious it looks stupid for even cartoon characters to pull that stunt. In addition the operable range of a blow dryer is about two feet, tops. It's not in the least bit humorous and, frankly, it's just insulting. The only thing that would add any humor at all would be a final panel wherein we see Station Wagon Susie in her station wagon at maximum speed, about a quarter-second from running it right up Les' ass, merrily chatting on the phone with Zombie Lisa – "Send him to MEEE!"

Is it me are does the first lady jogger's (blonde/brown hair chick) capture my feelings exactly. She has this look that screams, "I can't believe they are that stupid!"

  8. I don't even care if the hair dryers would actually dry anybody off without electrocuting someone else. How long would the runners stay dry? What on earth is the point of doing this?

  9. I get it, TB, I really do. You've created a world of stupid people who can't function unless Les gives them direction because they are incapable of thinking for themselves. Like I said, I get it. Can we move on now?

You know as sad as it is to say , TBs whole "Lisa's Legacy" is actually going to hurt the cancer cure drive more than help it. People are already so sick of his rhetoric that I imagine some people are going to feel less sympathetic to the cancer cause.
