Lame of Groans

Dammit, Batiuk, you were this close to a funny gag!A Game of Thanes”? Drop the article “A” and you would’ve had, by FW standards anyway, an actual punchline!!! Don’t worry thought: I fixed it for you:

  1. Meh. Standard-issue Batom wordplay featuring the always-snide Dickface smugly tossing his clever gag right over his dimbulb student’s pointy little heads. At least that’s how I read it, but I’m biased.

  2. Good job, Les. Instead of selling the material by drawing specific comparisons to Game of Thrones (violence, political maneuvering, magical influence), or by describing why actors call it “The Scottish Play” (lots of weird urban-legend type mishaps) you went for the lame pun. I can’t imagine why your students show absolutely no interest in literature.

  3. Well it’s not like Shakespeare ever wrote anything timeless and meaningful like “Lisa’s Story” or as it’s known around “The Westview Book”.

  4. We again see the problem why the school levy doesn’t pass: the parents are trying to do unto inept Les and useless Bull what they’ve been trying to do unto Crankshaft: get smug incompetents who blame the children they mistreat for the results of their own incompetence fired. The long-term goal of the ordinary citizens of Westview is to have one high school: Mighty Mountain where competence rules.

  5. The setup here is a lame pun, but the reactions of the gang lead me to think that we may be getting ready for a Shakespeare/HBO arc. Which could have great potential! So of course, it’s gonna suck.

  6. I truly did not know that. I’m in a distinct minority of those who don’t like/watch the HBO series, but my friends who do like GOT seem to concur that the book(s) is(are) even “better” than the series.

Apologies then to TB; the punchline is valid, though I’d wager I’m not the only one who thought he was off base. Hat tip to you, spacemanspiff85.

  7. I actually didn’t mind this one much. It actually took some effort and wit. My main problem with this strip lately is that it just really seems like TB isn’t trying.

  8. And the school year begins again for fifth year juniors Glasses and Chullo. If you think you have problems dealing with the time-jump crapola in this strip, believe me, Batiuk does too.

Hmm, i wonder if that makes Summer and Keisha juniors, sophomores, or other? Answer: Why should you care? The author doesn’t.

  9. I half expect a storyline soon where Les and Cayla consider having a child, since they don’t have any yet.

  10. You know, if I had a lit teacher who made the face that Les makes in panel 6, I would have hated him. Why does Batiuk do this? It’s as if Les would consider it an honor if his students hate him.
