Good Lord, there’s a lot of verbiage in today’s strip, including a whole panel’s worth from yesterday. Les fondly reminisces about the time Ronnie’s inattentive driving nearly got them killed. And this was before cellphones!

Ronnie Come Lately
Lazy Sunday

TB’s Sunday Comic Book “Tributes” are somewhat akin to the “Family Circus” strips when “Bil is on vacation” and 7-year-old Billy fills in. The Funky Fedora is usually tipped to obscure titles that only the comics-geekiest would know about. TB just has to think of a comic that, however tenuously, ties into something or someone in the strip, slap on the FW banner and a vignette at the bottom “explaining” the connection.
Wally was making such great strides, traveling to Colorado and back, and venturing out to dine. But grocery shopping still gives him the willies. Fortunately Buddy’s there to “pop the corner” for his master. Rachel (I’m assuming that’s Rachel) sighs…like she really misses doing that for Wally.
Owen, Blowin'
Super Band Mom, wearing her pink Ann Apple jacket, shows up in the nick of time with Owen’s horn, and the kid, without even tuning or warming up, nails his solo. Yay.
Whew
Not for nothing: they’re going to be performing with a number of other school bands. Do you not suppose that someone would maybe be willing to lend the kid a trumpet? Anyway, that panicked expression on Becky in panel 1 is classic. Her phantom left hand right now would be strumming her lips, making that crazy “flubberdedub” sound.
