Notes for SoSF Guest Authors

Real loose and informal guidelines for SoSF Guest Authors:

LINKING TO FW STRIPS

To link to current daily strips, please use the following link to the Seattle Post Intelligencer comics pages. It works on mobile as well as desktop. As of this writing, each day’s strip can be accessed around 7:30 PM the night before Copy and paste this link (of course, replace YYYY-MM-DD first)

Hi and welcome! Thanks for pitching in as a Guest Author at SoSF. Below are some very general guidelines and tips for authoring and publishing daily posts.

Posting basics:

Preferably, posts should go live at 10:30 PM the night before the strip appears. In most cases, I will have gathered the strips ahead of time (using this method) and posted them in the Library, and this “local” copy of the strip is the one we link to. Occasionally (mainly every Sunday and the first of every month), the day’s strip doesn’t appear until midnight eastern. In this case, it’s perfectly fine to put up a placeholder post, with a generic title and a link to the strip on the nj.com comics page. Below are snippets you can copy and edit:

Linking to “local” copy of strip:

If the strip has been uploaded to our Library, you can go to that page, right-click the comic, and “Copy Image Address”…and use that to replace [INSERT LINK HERE] in the example below.

<a style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none; border-bottom: 2px dotted #1c9bdc;" href="[INSERT LINK HERE]" target="_blank">Link to today's strip</a>

Linking to strip at nj.com:

I use the comics page at nj.com because for some reason the strip appears earlier there than it does on the Comics Kingdom parent site. Be sure to replace YYYY-MM-DD in this example with the correct year, date, and month:

<a style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none; border-bottom: 2px dotted #1c9bdc;" href="https://www.nj.com/comics-kingdom/?feature_id=Funky_Winkerbean&feature_date=YYYY-MM-DD" target="_blank">Link to today's strip</a>
