Not one but two astounding things about today’s comic:
Pa Winkerbean can talk! Better still: he comes out with a wacky non sequitir, mixing up Alcoholics Anonymous with the Automobile Club of America (you got that, right? Right?)In an unusual, abrupt, but very welcome midweek “jump cut”, we see Funky picking up his old man at jokeishly-named “Bedside Manor”. The rarely-seen Pa Winkerbean is one of the most forlorn figures in this strip (and boy, is that saying something). We don’t even know his first name; we only know that he never speaks and that he is fond of a certain Britcom. And if you were to swap that Santa cap hat for a baseball cap, give him some glasses and enlarge the pores on his nose, he’d look just like Ed Crankshaft!
Summer’s ego took a beating tonight? She wasn’t the one who put up a brick with the game on the line. No doubt Dr. Les’ prescription for her bruised ego will turn out to be a trip to Montoni’s.
For those of you just tuning in: All Keisha has to do is make these free throws and we win! Chalk up another “W” for Westvi—DOINK! Hmph. Anyway, when did Cayla completely lose faith in her daughter’s b-ball skillz? Or is the eye-covering just an excuse to show us that rock on her finger?
Just say it, Les: “…and they’re all here to see my little girl…um, our little girls!” Her betrothment to Les is already taking its toll on Cayla: she sports not only the tired-looking eye bags, but has also assumed the proper, gloomy Westview attitute. Think this prophecy is gonna self-fulfill?
