Cayla…is not actually a Cassandra; she’s simply predicting doom and gloom without any sense of either having said anything worthwhile or being ignored. In other words, she’s a typical Funky Winkerbean character.

Cayla…seems to have suddenly, and for no discernible reason, become a Nattering Nabob of Negativity for no particular reason.

Obviously, Batiuk needs to make Cayla as much of a negative ass as he can so she fits in with the rest of the cast. Sheesh…Can you imagine being a high school athlete, and not simply that, but a good high school athlete, with a Mom like that?

We’ve seen the She-Goats stink up the joint before. But the weird thing about the season just underway is Cayla’s sudden lack of confidence in her daughter’s team. “High expectations goeth before an upset.” “The customer is always wrong.” Covering her eyes when Kei$ha makes a free throw. Look at her lack of expression as she bemoans their lack of teamwork. What the hell has gotten into her?

Predictable

I don’t even know where to start with today’s strip. What makes “everyone” so certain that tonight’s game is Westview’s for the taking, especially with the She-Goats coming off a loss? Is the other team even lousier? And Cayla’s newly acquired defeatist attitude persists: “The customer is always wrong.” Th’ hell? No, the customer is always right. Anyway, how does that even follow what Les just said? And what percentage of faithful FW readers are gonna get the reference to mythical Cassandra, who was granted the gift of prophecy by the god Apollo? Les should have gone with “Meet my fiancee, the Amazing fucking Kreskin.”
