Fee Fi Fo Dumb

Yeah, anytime Cody expects things to go his way, count on the opposite outcome. “Robo-Goat” stands ready for battle; unfortunately, arch-rival Big Walnut Tech has brought along the Iron Giant. I kind of like the overhead perspective in today’s strip, but the shadow-within-a-shadow in panel 2 doesn’t work too well.

  1. Hey Porgy…let’s stop off at Pop’s and dig some jugs this robo-crap even bores me…..(along with the readers Mudhead)

  2. I thought these two clowns were merely dressing up the robot, not entering it themselves?

At this point I can only hope for a Crankshaft spinoff featuring his hot granddaughter going about her day.

  3. Oh, OK, it’s a robot sumo competition. How very stupid of us not to have seen THAT coming. Now it all makes sense.

Get ready for another galling, morale-crushing defeat in a long, long line of ’em, boys. In Westview, there are no “glory days” after you emerge from the womb…it’s all downhill after that (although I’m sure that being in utero in Westview is no walk in the park either). Cody and his dimwitted sidekick will surely be humiliated and, after a bit of mindless wordplay, will skulk away until they’re trotted out for their next embarrassing defeat. Goooooooo…..Scapegoats!

  4. So the way I see it, one of two things will happen:

1.) The Scapebot wins due to some peculiar technicality, like the rival robot being to big too fit into the ring or so top-heavy that a mild wind blows it over. It will not be funny.

2.) The Scapebot gets crushed, and Owen and Cody mope about the latest in a long, long string of failures. It will not be funny.

  5. Yoinks! That robot looks big enough to kill everybody on the floor. Not that I want that to happen. Just kidding. I want that to happen.

It won’t happen. But to quote TheDiva, whatever happens, “It will not be funny.”

I fucking hate this strip. And that’s why I read it, you hater haters!

  6. Hater haters, love it!

I actually might like today’s strip if it weren’t for the leap from “we put a stoopid helmet on the bot” to “we own and command it”.

  7. Shadow within a shadow within a shadow… that black Cody with the big eyes looks a little too Stepin Fetchit.. OH LAW LAW, OWENS, WHAT WE GWINE DO NA’!?! No, that’s just too horrible, even for Tombat’s Westview Circus. Crush them BWT-Bot, crush them all…

  8. Batom Inc. is far too deep and clever to use Act I’s Start Trek-loving, sentient school computer, but considers this weaksauce involving nerds and a crappy robot to be entertainment gold.

  9. No, that’s no robot. It’s Summer, coming to “kick the butt off” of these twinkies who dare to scratch up “her” gym floor. I mean, they DID name the auditorium after her when she graduated, right?

Yeah, and where ARE the techno club kids? It’s their robot! How does Batcrap keep forgetting stuff he had written previously?? Not the first time.

  10. Aaahhh, the old foil Big Walnut Tech. Such memories, like when this strip used to be funny.

  11. I think Goofus and Goofuser are in the ring because their “contribution” was so shoddily applied that they needed to go out and remount the helmet because it had fallen off.

  12. Looks like Big Walnut Tech has their own version of Owen and Cody: Robot Decorators

  13. (monotone voice)
“…and so it turned out the robot had a human brain which was stolen from a kindly old man. And the children of that old man came to the robot looking for their father, and they called out to him. And the robot’s human brain remembered his children and his stolen life, and he was moved to tears. But the tears shorted out his circuits, and fried his brain. And the robot toppled over, and he crushed his children, and Cody, too. And none of them lived.”

…I have no idea why I thought of that (I’m hoping you get the reference…)

  14. Perhaps my expectations are so low for this strip any more, or I’m just glad that Les is missing in action, but this week’s story line somewhat amuses me.

  15. I think Señor Tortilla just did the equivalent of telling a pitcher he has a no hitter going. Thanks a lot.

  16. Ssssssso, Cody and Owen, despite not actually having done any special FX and -not- being members of the club are presenting the robot because Tom really, really, REALLY doesn’t want to create any new characters? Is that what I’m supposed to get from this?

  17. Absolutely, John. He wants to go with high school kids, but after graduating so many of his throwaways, this is what he’s left with: two dopes who shouldn’t even be in this story. But it couldn’t be anyone else, because there is no one else.

And what makes it amusing is that he advanced Jinx forward a few years beyond where she should be. She was an infant when Summer was 3 or 4, so she’d be a freshman or sophomore now if he followed that timeline, and would at least have another kid he could write about. But no, in the name of doing things all half-assed, he kicked his own ass.
