Monday, January 20th

Link to today’s strip.

Content for the strip was not available til now, and was it worth the wait (or in today’s case, the weight)?  Not really.   Technology seems to be making more of an appearance these days, and it isn’t immediately condemned.  Is that a positive trend?  Is there such a possibility in Westview?

  1. Well, technology is allowing Holly to nag Funky into doing something he clearly has no interest in, so it’s evil by association.

  2. Passive Aggressive-fu. They teach at the high school.

And Batiuk, I’ve forgiven you for poor art in the past, but you are a fool. Did you not notice that the ‘joke’ (for lack of a better description) falls flat if the woman pushing the man to work out is clearly heavier than the man is?

  3. Yes, Holly is the size of a house. I guess 2014 is designed to be a humor-free year for Batiuk (make your own joke how this is distinguishable from other years).

  4. Yuck, a week’s worth of miserable fat Funky complaining about being fat and miserable…great. The idea well is running pretty dry if he’s doing two-panelers on a Monday.

I thought the area directly in front of Montoni’s diet soda dispenser WAS the “fitness center”. I can’t wait to see this alleged “fitness center”, featuring cobwebs, tumbleweeds and the best exercise equipment the 1970’s had to offer. “Fitness center”…LOL.

  5. A thought’s occurred to me. You know all those RPG webcomics that have spread online ever since the Lord of the Rings one? How much more sense would FW be if it was rewritten to be one of those?

  6. Funky’s exercise jim-jams are actually quite understandable. He’s been running frequently for several years only he hasn’t lost any weight and in fact suffered severe angina when he tried to participate in a marathon he was training for all year.

Faced with such relentless failure and hardship courtesy of our auteur El Dolor de Espalda, why would or even should Funky try?

  7. Give TB credit for this one. How many comics artists are bold enough to do a week’s worth of strips depicting a conversation between Mark Mangino in a blond wig and Ralph Friedgen?

  8. If Bats was a Good Writer I’d think, OK, upcoming arc about new fitness place next door-“You Khan Do It” ,pizza/fitness jokes, etc.But that won’t happen. (Aaiiee, rereading post- I’ve become Bats. Help! Save me!)

  9. The Westview Fitness Center consists entirely of an artifical hill up which customers roll a giant rock, which then rolls back down once it reaches the top. Customers do this over and over again until they die.

  10. Yeah. I’m sure he called it “the fitness center.” That’s a circumlocution worthy of Herb and Jamaal. Hyoomahns call that thing “the gym.” I know this, and I’m a middle-aged fat guy.

  11. Has there ever been an encapsulation of the misery and despair that is Westview more powerful than Funky’s face in P3? I think not. He cannot summon even the scintilla of positive energy it would take to smirk and TELL THAT HO that we is staying put watching, uh, tennis, until the cows come home, but it looks like they’ve started arriving HAWHAWHAW! … NOW GET ME A VODKA ORANGE! MACH SCHNELL!

  12. What the hell happened to Funky’s face in panel 1?? His upper lip has seemed to have vanished into thin air! Well I guess translocating your body parts to a parallel dimension is one sure way to lose weight.

  13. >What the hell happened to Funky’s face in panel 1??

    The Cancer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  14. Yeah, I don’t know what TomBat is trying to prove with Holly but damn, man, she’s a colossus. A shapeless colossus.
