In a nod to realism, today we see Jessica actually employing a tripod as she interviews Phil the Forecaster. Seems like John Darling’s contempt for humanity extended to everyone from the lowly intern to the expert meteorologist. Add Phil to the list of people happy to see Darling dead.

Watch out, Herzog, there’s a new documentarian in town…and she has a tripod now! Really though, what can you even say at this point? TB is obviously enjoying this trip down memory lane with his beloved, long-forgotten old JD characters and there’s just no stopping him now until the well is dry, so to speak. I’m just hoping he gets to whatever the point of this is before he pulls the plug for a year and a half and goes back to those goddamned comic books again.
That’s…actually kind of funny. No really, after seeing the “OMG SNOW’S COMING BATTEN DOWN THE HATCHES AND CLOSE THE SCHOOLS AND never mind, we got maybe an inch” dance every winter, that line gave me a good chuckle. Jessica’s father John Darling is a colossal asshole and dead, and he’s still funnier than the rest of this strip’s cast put together.
I’m not sure if we’re supposed to be laughing or not at it. It’s really not a bad joke, but the context is person after person talking about how horrible John Darling was.
At least it’s not “Pluggers!”
It’s good to know that all the footage will consist solely of extreme close-ups of people’s necks.
Stretching that single sentence out to three panels kind of saps the humor out of it.
Welcome to hell, tripod!
“Welcome to hell, tripod!”
Even better is the look on Jessica’s face as the reality is beginning to sink in that she is never going to find anyone who will have a good word to say about her father, John Darling, who was murdered……………….
“that depicts contemporary issues affecting young adults in a thought-provoking and sensitive manner.”
Next contemporary issue:
Thirty something when you ask too many questions and find out that your dad, who was murdered, was a POS who everybody hated suicide.
You know I think I solved John Darling’s murder. I don’t think it was one person. I think it was a Murder on the Orient Express like death where every one of his co-workers took part in killing him. That’s my theory. I withhold the rights to publish this into a crappy novel if I want.
I cannot imagine why a constantly incorrect weatherman who looks like a Muppet and steals his sport coats from Craig Sager’s closet would be the butt of anyone’s jokes.
Not a bad joke by itself, but pretty bad if you use the same joke every day.
Anyway, I did a little research on the John Darling strip, and was reminded that the artwork was done by Tom Armstrong, of Marvin, and the thought occurred to me, that as much as we rag on TB for his content, at least he hasn’t been doing poop jokes for 30 years.
Nuclear plant accidents? That explains so much…
Phil is Ohio’s 2nd best weatherman, after Les Nessman at WKRP in Cincinnati
