Shakin’ All Over

I liked this arc much better when these two were wary of each other to the point of antipathy. Their initial awkwardness and mistrust of one another has, almost in an instant, been replaced with gentle scatological humor and hijab hijinks. Of course, Wally has to take it too far and bring up the handshaking thing.

Programming notes: Saturday’s strip was not available for preview; look for a placeholder post after midnight EST. Also! On Monday we welcome our newest guest author!

In what world is a guy whose eyebrows are arching like that not being a creep who’s trying to hit on his classmate? Especially right after she mentions giving their “partnership” another try?

    Nailed it!

I find the panel 2 drawing of Wally particularly horrendous. What bugs the heck out of me is that BatHack is doing nothing but using one of his hackneyed high school situations, and just moved it to a college setting. They’ll probably wind up at the Malt Shop, sipping a milkshake from two straws (it’s not California, but A-Hi-A!). Happy Days indeed…

HE’S DOING IT! WALLY’S GROWING! WALLY’S SHOWING! Bleh…this crap is so dull, I can’t even crack wise on it.

“Another try”? When exactly was the first one, again?

  5. Tom Batiuk: “That was another joke.”

Person: “Okay…you’re going to have to stop that.”

And from that day forward, children, Tom Batiuk took this advise to heart, and he never told another joke as long as he lived.

“We should continue to communicate normally instead of behaving like weirdos for no reason, but the infantile tilty-headed wordplay has to stop.”

“Well, as Thomas Jefferson once said, “wordplay is the same thing as a play on words, but backwards.”

“The cultural differences between us are too vast to bridge, Wally. Perhaps it is best if I return to sullenly brooding and….”

    “What was that?”

“Oh, they’re just sandblasting the gang graffiti off the student center again. For a minute there it reminded me of…”

“The sound of the bombs as they fell and…”

    “You didn’t know…”

    “When you were sleeping…”

    “Or taking a dump….”

    “I-I-I-love you, Wally.”

“I love you Adeela…and my Buddy senses that something might be Bud-ing between us!”

“Sigh. The cultural differences between us are too vast to bridge, Wally.”

  7. The most annoying thing in the world is someone who follows a bad joke with an elbow to the ribcage and an explanation that he’s told a joke. Not only is this why no one likes Wally, it’s the story prompt for a lot of episodes of that thing Nick does about the albino with a zillion sisters.

He’s certainly showing why, after six years in college and on the verge of graduation, Wally can’t find someone to work with on this project.

Tomorrow’s strip: Funky unlocks the door to Montoni’s and is startled to hear noises coming from the back room. Memphis, hmph, oooh, ….

He clutches his concealed carry pistol and opens the door to storage room only to find….. Adela and Wally on the floor surrounded by pizza pans, garbaging up their on their 4th pepperoni lovers pizza. With her grease stained mouth, Adela begs Mr Funky to not tell her parents.

Funky obliges, but Lilian from Crankshaft was snooping, overheard the whole thing, and goes right to Adela’s parents.

My prediction: Adeela is Rana’s mother. When she finds out Kreepy John Howard is Rana’s father…please, please, please, let Adeela blow up Komix Corner the way the post office blew up!

  11. And he still hasn’t taken off that darn jacket, but everything is okay in Westview ’cause you know…Wally worked through his problem with Adeela’s head dress and religion and grew as an individual.

I’m guessing that the chances are 50/50 that TomBa will actually be able to keep Wally out of that jacket for any extensive length of time.
