Frankie finally musters the gumption to get out of his Stalkermobile and enter Montoni’s, where he is greeted by an entirely too-chipper Rachel. The redhead attempts to throw this mysterious stranger off the trail by spouting gibberish when asked about Darin’s whereabouts. But she doesn’t know that Frankie’s read The Book: he gets the “Funky Winkerboard” reference and regards Montoni’s would-be gatekeeper with a stern gaze.

What‘s Frankie going to do? If he’s trying to reconnect with Darin, why is he hanging around like a cop on stakeout? Why doesn’t he just go in and introduce himself?Jeffcoat Wayne

Even though it’s stalkerish behavior, I’m still not getting Batiuk’s intended “evil vibe” off of Frankie. He genuinely comes off as a guy who was deprived of the chance to meet his own illegitimate bastard son.
What and why indeed? Frankie seems totally un-sinister today, at least compared to how he’s been portrayed so far in this arc. Where is this going?
Frankie Speaking
The plot, such as it is, continues to thicken today. Frankie the Rapist Stalker’s got a partner in whatever he’s trying to pull here: the equally-shiftily-named “Lenny”. It also seems that his target is not Les (drat!) but Darin, whom he’s trailed to Montoni’s. TB actually rewards us with a pretty good punchline.

I’m getting the subtle impression that Frankie might not be a nice person…
Like the rest of you, dear readers, I cannot even begin to fathom what sinister plot Frankie has in mind. Something to do with besmirching St. Lisa’s immaculate image, I guess. Interesting how TB’s managed to intersect two plot threads, each having something to do with A Book By Les Moore.
Drive By
I don’t know whether it’s “the picture of domesticity” but has Les ever looked douchier that he does in today’s panel 2? I especially like how the Google Earth perspective accentuates his bald pate. Meanwhile, our story’s other two-toned skunk head, well, just plain skunk, arrives on the scene, driving a car with that special windshield tint that makes everything look like it’s on TV. Frankie’s car must also have a sunroof, too: it’s the only way to explain the weird shadows on the back of his head.
