“That’s why we do it…because traveling around the country signing books for mobs of adoring housewives while, back at home, two women inexplicably compete for my affection, is not sufficient to feed my massive ego! I’m saving lives here dammit!“
That's So Funk-Key

This is, after all, a “comic” strip, so it would be unseemly to gripe when the cartoonist leaves aside the doom and gloom to attempt an actual joke. But man, for a guy who exercises regularly, Funky looks way old beyond his years. He’s beginning to resemble Fred Mertz.
Bench Depressed
File today’s strip under “Les never lets an occasion for a pun go to waste.” There was a time when Les’ saucy bon mots drew a wry smile from those around him. At some point, however (Kilimanjaro?), the grins turned to grimaces over Les’ groaners.
Do you reckon Les sees his dead wife sitting on that empty park bench? On every park bench?
No Country for Old Men
Once again, feeble Funky and lame Les have their fitness routine disrupted by younger, fitter specimens (last time they were on bicycles). Once again, they are forced to yield…and once again, they “slide over” to the wrong side of the path.
Training Daze
Trying to make sense of today’s strip, I realized how Tony Montoni must have felt when Darin came aboard and started yammering about enabling customers to order pizzas using their “I-Phones“. So fat Funky isn’t just a casual jogger: he’s actually enlisted a “Digital Trainer” to track his progress. I suppose it’s paying off, since these two slobs have enough wind to carry on a conversation as they lumber along.
