Batiuk continues to stretch the “happy dance” gag, which might have been acceptable as a one-off, to ever-more-absurd lengths. John produces a release form for the boys to sign if they insist on staying to witness Crazy Harry’s routine. Give TB credit today for “writing what he knows”; he certainly has experience with legal documents. Of course, since Cody, Owen, and Little Blue Riding Hoodie are minors, it’s doubtful their signatures would be legally binding. And what the hell could be so “soul-scarring” about this spectacle unless it indeed involves Harry getting naked?

Crazy need not worry about a job. Of course Funky will hire him to work at Montoni’s.
Not so fast! If nobody here saw this coming, it’s probably because it’s just so…so stupid. “Dead Skunk Hea—”…sorry, I mean, John, is going to enlist Crazy Harry to determine the value of the comic books that he’s selling to the Komix Korner? Harry’s oblivious to John’s overture at first, correctly opining that this job could be handled by an eleventh grader. Which just adds to the smirking, dimpled glee with which John offers the job to Crazy, I mean, “Classic Rock”.
See Ya Vader
As the last brown leaves flutter over Westview High, while a few green ones inexplicably cling to the tree, the nerds are already at work , improving “our robot” for next year. In the aftermath of Robo-Goat’s slaughter at the hands of Tech’s massive mechanoid, Cody thinks that WHS needs a “more intimidating”, rather than, I dunno, say, a bigger and/or stronger robot.
Métal Hurlant
Ring the bell! Today’s strip is funny. Implausible, sure, but it’s a comic strip (sorry, DSH John). I like how little Robo-Goat is actually screaming in the clutches of Big Walnut Tech’s menacing, mechanical monster. And in panel two, for once, Batiuk makes “tell-don’t-show” actually work, as the boys follow Robo-Goat’s trajectory, presumably through a window or wall. I’d have added a “crash” sound effect in P2, but we shall lay aside the snark hammer for today.
(Today’s post title is kind of a stretch. Did anyone get it?)
