Just how far did they go to get that Christmas tree? It was nighttime when Cory surprised his ‘rents at the tree lot. Now as they bring the tree inside it appears to be daytime. I’m also wondering if this is the first time in forty-one Funky years that Holly’s name has been used in a Christmas-y pun.

Holly just smiled. Every single year, that same joke, that same smirk. But that was all about to change, thanks to a carton of egg nog and a box of rat poison.
I’d say maybe it’s the colorist but the art of that sky would look a bit odd if it was set at night (not that it’s stopped Batiuk before) and this is far from the first time this has happened.
Blech. I mean you expect some cruise-control fluff for the holidays but man, that’s just terrible. And I’m not sure how I feel about New Upstanding Model Son Soldier Cory either. It’s like TB stripped away his personality and now he’s just like the rest of them, smirking moronically as some idiot cackles away with some inane joke or awful pun. The old Cory would have sneered at least.
@Epic Doomicus
What’s worse is that Corey was a genuinely loathsome character. A thief and an aggressively ignorant slacker who wanked to his superiority complex. Let’s be honest here; the only reason why we miss ‘old’ Corey is because people like me viewed him as a proxy for giving the FW crew a black eye.
Which is probably why we were so excited about Franky and furious at his neutering. It’s not so much that we like thieves and date rapists, we just hate the other characters so much that we want them to inflict misery on them.
Shouldn’t they be pushing the tree in top-first? That way they won’t break off all the branches.
And shouldn’t the big strong soldier boy be carrying the heavy end?
Um is it me or is Corey’s US flag patch reversed the wrong way? Or is that how they wear it? Or is it some sly sign of protest by Batiuk. Probable giving him too much credit, here.
“Army Regulation 670-1 states that the American flag patch is to be worn, right or left shoulder, so that “the star field faces forward, or to the flag’s own right. When worn in this manner, the flag is facing to the observer’s right, and gives the effect of the flag flying in the breeze as the wearer moves forward. The appropriate replica for the right shoulder sleeve is identified as the ‘reverse side flag’.” (source: http://www.usflag.org/flagpatch.html)
Oncologist, that’s one thing TB does get right. The flag is “reversed” when displayed on the right side of military vehicles and uniforms so as to appear to by flying as a real flag being moved forward would. Another thing TB actually got right is the color scheme of the flag, which is now, at times, displayed in gray and black on camouflage uniforms.
Giving the gift of credit. Merry Christmas Tom Batiuk.
I hope that the VA hospital can help Cory with the dreadful case of Hatchet Face he’s come down with.
H&N: Well put. Plus it’s just so sudden too. A year into his stint and he’s completely metamorphosed into a fine upstanding model son, another bland smirking drone, his past entirely forgotten. Perhaps he’s trying to make up for the hell he inflicted upon poor, poor Wally.
This is the same Cory who, a month prior to this, was talking with barely concealed contempt about how his ‘rents own a pizzeria–and now he’s filled with the joy of the season. Why, it’s a Christmas miracle! The spirits have done it all in one night! Of course they have–they’re spirits! I MUST stand on my head! Then it’s off to the package store for some more spirits.
