It was just a couple weeks ago that Les rented a trailer to schlep Summer and Keisha off to KSU. Today the girls return to Moore Manor to find their respective parents setting up chairs (a lot of chairs) and schlepping around potted plants. Naturally the first thing out of Summer’s mouth is a wisecrack, which naturally is met with withering glares from the bride and groom soon-to-be. In a refreshing change of pace, Summer has retired her Westview hoodie in favor of…a Kent State hoodie.

Pizza My Heart
The crust is thin, but not nearly as this as this plot. Reckon it’s a little late for Cayla to be watching her figure. It’s weird, too, that none of Les and Cayla’s friends are helping with the setup. Note that the wedding date is Monday; expect either a comic book tribute or football-themed Sunday throwaway strip before we launch into an entire week of The Coming Wedding. Let’s see: backyard wedding, under a “golden canopy” that’s rapidly shedding its leaves, BBQ grill on wheels…what hijinks could possibly ensue? This might drag on for two weeks.

Well, with Batiuk’s penchant for leaving plots unresolved (Becky-Roberta, Cory enlisting), my bet is that this Maybe-Maybe Not Pregnancy is never mentioned again.
A good number of you savvy snarkers correctly called “bullshit” on Cayla’s supposed pregnancy. Her announcement turns out to be Batiuk’s biggest “gotcha” since he pretended to kill off Sgt. Wally five years ago.
You’d think that with a one-year lead time, Batiuk would have a little more control over the narrative flow. But the plot pacing, such as it is, is getting even more out of whack, as TB tries to shoehorn in major plot events. Hence, we see Summer and Keisha starting college at the end of September, and Cayla ordering her wedding flowers after the chairs have been set up for the ceremony.

Of course you know what comes after a wedding storyline. Cayla is younger than Les. It will be time for her to get preggers with Les Jr.Señor Tortilla

…One plausible yet extremely unlikely scenario would be that Cayla discovers she’s pregnant just before the wedding…
If you thought that unilaterally deciding “We’re going to have our wedding here!” demonstrated Cayla’s complete absence of tact…get a load of how she offhandedly announces to Les that she’s pregnant! And then following up with a casual aside to…who’s that? Her OB/GYN? The florist? And what’s with that look on her face as she tells him? They’re ostensibly in love, and about to get married. OK, they’re not young, but this is bad news? Only in the sense that it reduces the likelihood that Cayla will walk out on Les before she goes through with the wedding.
Take a Seat
With the exception of an implied nooner a year and a half ago, we’ve seen very little to suggest that there exists any real passion between Les and Cayla. Instead, as their wedding approaches, we are getting to see a lot more petty bitching and passive-aggressiveness.
Something makes me think that the grill guy is based on one of TB’s IRL buddies. Batiuk’s rendered him with more loving care than he typically expends on his throwaway “extras”.
