Fake Punt

Who else had to look up what it means to “outpunt your coverage“? Obviously it’s a football analogy (so of course it comes out of Bull’s mouth), but in football, when you outpunt your coverage, you’re giving your opponent a chance to return the punt and gain good field position. However, according to urbandictionary.com defines this as “when a guy with no looks and no money lands a hot chick.” What a nice compliment to pay a girl about her father.

Who Could Ask For Moore?

Well. The tree managed to hang onto its beautiful golden canopy of leaves until the big day. And Mrs. Les Moore hangs on to her groom, the better to flash that band o’ gold (remember Les still has his from last time). The guests (where is Cayla’s family?) are all choked up, but Jim goes even further by inexplicably declaring this union to be the best thing that ever happened to him.

BLAM!

So the cash-strapped Westview football can shell out between four and seven grand for a football helmet tunnel to give the team “some real class” (because “real class” is what wins football games). And from the looks of panel 4, they inflated it with…highly flammable hydrogen? It took me a long while to discern that those aren’t leaping flames but rather letters spelling out “BLAM!” Of course, by the final panel, things aren’t as bad as they looked (unfortunately). Evidence found at the scene will later reveal the blast to be the result of sabotage by last Sunday’s player-turned-ballboy Jason Williams!

Con"Grads"ulations, Class of 2022–err, 2012?

Guest blogger DavidO here, reporting for duty for my last entry before passing the reins back to someone with much more talent than I, TFHackett!

Confusing, impossible to decipher time-jumps aside, Summer and Company (Aka, the nameless, faceless rest of her class) has finally graduated from high school!

Call me an ol’ softy but I can’t find too many faults with Sunday’s strip, aside from the smirk on Summer’s P1 baby picture. It’s actually rather well done and paced at a level that lends itself well to a one-shot Sunday strip.

Enjoy it, Snarkers. Dailies like this are far and few inbetween.

I'll Be GLAAD When This is Over

Camelot” is the prom theme for 2012, huh? That’s timely…bet it was the theme for Batiuk’s own prom at Midview High back in ’65.

Linda and Becky are still (weeks later) discussing Mr. Blackburn’s public dressing-down of his wife in front of the whole high school. Becky shares that her hitherto meek Dad, the father of four girls, “hardly said two words the entire time” she was growing up. TB must think that having him finally find his voice in order to publicly tear his wife a new one over her opposition to the same-sex prom couple makes Mr. Blackburn seem heroic. I think it makes him seem pathetic.
