Random, bulleted thoughts:
- I’ll bet Funky has stashed away somewhere a “World’s Best Boss” mug that he bought for himself at Spencer Gifts (like Michael Scott from The Office).
- I know Merry Pookster is delighted to see Khan alive and well, and no doubt plotting to go jihad, starting with his boss.
- Speaking of faces we haven’t seen in ages: guess I can scratch Chef Marcello Mastriani off the missing in action list! He looks like the Swedish Chef after a shave.
- If money’s tight, Funky might consider selling off that gold-plated Wurlitzer jukebox!
- “We’re like a family here…or at least, a family that you like.” Because such a thing as familial love is an alien concept in Westview. Ask Cory.
- The “punchline” just sucks so bad I’ll leave it alone.
Mamma Montoni
I’ll tell you who should never be allowed to use Photoshop: whoever it is that digitally colors these Sunday strips and makes them look like mud. Aside from that, this is the laziest Sunday throwaway in many a moon. Who’s talking here? The hands? Why not just have the card itself lettered “Happy Mother’s Day” and then one word balloon containing the punchline? And “Happy Mother’s Day to all the wives“? Are all the Montoni’s wives moms? I’m too exhausted to think about it anymore.
The Postman Piles On
Crazy Harry, actually working for a change, arrives on the scene. But instead of coming to Cory’s defense, he fires off one of his trademark weak puns. Will Cory finally “go postal” himself and actually act on those darkest thoughts of his?
HA! HA! HA! HA! HA!
Someone must have spotted the tribal tattoo on Cory’s bicep…
I have to confess: this week’s storyline is actually kind of fun. The pizza slice costume is perfectly ridiculous, kinda suggesting the work of R. Crumb. And forcing Cory to wear it is positively poetic. I don’t know if Cory’s body language is intentional…it seems a little nuanced for this strip. But I like how in panel 2 he appears startled, and his dejected slouch in panel 3 is apparent even through the foam-padded costume. Well done, TB, well done. I shall lay aside the snark gun for today. Besides, it’s not your fault that the colorist messed up girl 3’s hair in the second panel.
