I wonder if there’s a correlation ‘twixt the volume of text in a week of FW’s and the suckiness of that week’s plotline? ‘Cause again today we see Cody and Owen dwarfed by looming clouds of verbiage, including Cody’s expository “In her answer to my text message, Summer said…” Cody decides to “ratchet up the relationship” (which doesn’t yet exist) by sending the object of his affection the 21st century equivalent of a mixtape. Allow me to suggest the opening track:

Bold Text
Cody understands that the way to a senior jock girl’s heart (especially one “who made the winning…”) is a restricted text message, and he shares with Owen his “bold and decisive” plan to surreptitiously stalk Summer.
Paper View
Cory cares not a rat’s ass about climate change; he just enjoys being a shit-disturber. What I find disturbing is the hit-or-miss quality of the artwork in today’s comic. Check out the grotesesque grinning mug at the far right of panel 2: what’s he smiling about? And I recognize Summer by her blue hair, but has her face melted? What dread, degenerative disease has caused Rana’s droopy mug in the penultimate panel? And Cory seems to age about 15 years between panels 4 & 5. He morphs, mid-harangue, from a dopey child to a sardonic hipster.
Wouldn’t recycled paper be the most eco-friendly option? I’m not sure how cutting “farm-raised trees” has less of a carbon impact than cutting trees that are, uh, free range? It’s like telling a vegetarian that it’s ok to eat that burger because it came from a farm-raised cow.

“Summer Moore!!! Sick, dude. Even YOU can do better than that!!!”
Nope, and nope. Please, guys, this is Summer Moore we are talking about here! Owen attempts to illustrate the disparity using sports metaphors (he left out “she’s playin’ for the same team”, nudge nudge, wink wink). His panel 3 summation is actually amusing (by the standards of this strip). Thankfully we still have the Amish to make fun of.
Summer of Love
We know that Cody’s a fan of show tunes*, and his panel 1 dialogue suggests a song cue; you can almost hear the strings swelling in the background as he confesses to Owen his feelings for Summer. Owen’s as surprised as the rest of us to witness this turn of events.
