Ring the bell! Today’s strip is funny. Implausible, sure, but it’s a comic strip (sorry, DSH John). I like how little Robo-Goat is actually screaming in the clutches of Big Walnut Tech’s menacing, mechanical monster. And in panel two, for once, Batiuk makes “tell-don’t-show” actually work, as the boys follow Robo-Goat’s trajectory, presumably through a window or wall. I’d have added a “crash” sound effect in P2, but we shall lay aside the snark hammer for today.
(Today’s post title is kind of a stretch. Did anyone get it?)
Come on, your titles are going to have to be WAY more obscure to stump us.
Thumbs up, by the way.
I don’t know if I’d call it “funny” so much as “not aggravating or offensive in any way,” which is an accomplishment in itself for the strip.
Big Walnut Tech: better than WHS at everything….except girls’ basketball, of course (at least through last season, that is).
More than anything, today’s strip reminds me of how much I miss Comedy Central’s BattleBots. I mean, among other things, it gave us such national treasures as those plucky little warriors Grant Imahara and BioHazard.
BattleBots is long gone, and Funky Winkerbean persists. Where is the outrage? Where?!
I’d like to see a line forming for a place in that circle — Les, Skunkhead, Funky, Owen, Cody… One by one, flung through the gym window. Into Hell.
Wasn’t the BWT robot on the cover of a Queen LP? And, while today’S Strip was funny, it wasn’t nearly as funny as TB misspelling Joe Staton’S name in yesterday’s blog entry.
Is “Today’s strip is funny” the most overhyped statement in SOSF history?
a) yes
b) maybe
c) CANCER DEATH PTSD CANCER
You know the right answer.
In the good old bloodthirsty Act II days, Robo-Goat would have landed in the audience, causing Odie or Colognie (how’s that for an obscure pop culture reference?) to lose an eye.
They’d lose an eye, then lose an arm on the way to the hospital.
BWT… Did girls basketball player and Marfan’s Syndrome sufferer Brandy Bowleg play for them? Maybe they should check to see if she’s inside the robot costume.
Good morning snarkers!
Come on, your titles are going to have to be WAY more obscure to stump us.
I should have known! Please forgive me for underestimating y’all 🙂
I don’t know if I’d call it “funny” so much as “not aggravating or offensive in any way,” which is an accomplishment in itself for the strip.
Good point!
Big Walnut Tech: better than WHS at everything….except girls’ basketball, of course…
…and that wasn’t until Westview stole Keisha from BWT.

Yes and yes (and thank you for following @SonofStuckFunky)!

I’m ashamed to know this, but Brandy played for Our Lady of the Cedars, who the She-Goats defeated in the playdowns.
…you know, Morons.
Hang on a second–you mean a Funky Winkerbeanplot arc actually had a resolution? This is stunning; I may have to sit down.
Wonder what the “true” FW fans would think about ComicStripCritic John Weber’s 16-minute YouTube rant on last week’s comic’s history lesson?
Now, if the Scapebot had been flung into the stands where it struck an unsuspecting Les, that would be comedy gold.
