Here we are, still in Hollywood. It’s a good thing Les doesn’t have to start preparing for school in the upcoming week or so. Today’s strip has Les still hanging out with Mason, about to watch Mason do a table reading, which is probably some industry lingo TomBat picked up a week ago.

Looking back at Lisa’s Story, the other shoe, (inspiration for the script they’re yammering about in today’s strip,) it’s hard to imagine how much he could do to add or remove from the strip. Almost every part of the movie is going to take place at Int: Montoni’s Pizza or Int: Lisa’s bathroom. Sure, there’s a few trips to the hospital and that weird football catch at the beginning but other than that, Lisa’s Story would be better told as a novel or a… (reluctant sigh) daily comic strip.

Every fairytale has to come to and end, and in today’s strip, Mason Jarr drops off Les in the middle of downtown Hollywood with nary a peck good night. I’m not sure what point Les is trying to make here, as I can’t think of anything much cooler than tooling around in Hollywood as a bankable star in a Porsche. So Mason has to live in an apartment and study lines for a script. Boo-hoo, woe is Mason in his beachside 2700 sq ft apartment-away-from-his-Aspen-Home. I really feel for the guy as his $80,000 car drives him and his perfect hairdo into the sunset.

It’s back to Mason’s sports car in today’s strip as Mason points out that making an action movie is apparently so easy that anyone with a video toaster can make one. Les’s “Chick Flick” is much, much higher art of course, somehow, even though the intent of every movie is to make a hell of a lot of money no matter what demographic they’re targeting. With bam-bam-CGI action movie Guardians of the Galaxy set to make 90 million dollars this week, why argue with success?
SoSFDavidO here for the next two weeks, takin’ the reins! Here’s today’s strip, where Mason is introduced to the idea of making a movie based on someone in real life. Strange concept, I know, and so much so that it sounds like one of those experimental films like Andy Warhol’s movie that showed someone sleeping for 9 hours.
Still, it’s just so crazy it could work!
I do wonder what part of Lisa’s Story could be considered fascinating. Did the talking cat make it into the script somehow?
