Apparently Linda Bushka serves as shop steward for the Westview faculty, and she breaks some bad news to the rank and file that the teachers may have to endure a “wage freeze”. Because a salary cut wouldn’t provide Jim up with a setup for a nifty punchline. And firing lousy teachers such as this lot is an impossibility in any school district, fictional or real. Eh, who cares? Feast your squinties on panel 1 Becky’s prominent pinned-up sleeve, Coach Kaz earring and bulbous nose!

Unfunnies
Today’s strip offers up plenty to snark upon! Let’s go in order, left to right.
The draftsmanship: terrible. Really. Funky’s profile has all the vitality of an Indian on the head of a well-worn nickel. Les’ sweater makes him look like a Westview High freshman after a magic marker attack. Crazy Harry looks strangely 2-D; and when did USPS workers adopt a bright yellow shoulder patch? What a crew.
Moving on: Harry has three school-age children (that’s right, three), yet he’s completely unaware that “there’s a school levy on the ballot?” (And isn’t there a school levy on the ballot every year?)
Panel 2: “Don’t you read the newspaper?” BWHA ha ha ha! That’s funny enough by itself to serve as today’s punchline! But boy, oh boy oh boy: panel 3…what can I say? Who has done more to suck the funny out of the funnies than our boy TB? And he’s copped to it before…
Much a Douche About Nothing
Naturally, Les is the only one who “gets” the concept of Owen’s costume. Takes one to know one, right? Be careful, “Ben Reilly”: Mr. Moore’s pet peeve about mixed metaphors is well documented. Anyway, if Blonde Sailor Girl despises Owen so much, why has she been following him around all day?
Owen the Clone
No wonder Cody and Owen are besties: both enjoy dressing up for Halloween, and then berating anyone who incorrectly guesses at who or what they’re supposed to be. Admittedly, today’s strip is actually funny! Generic Blonde Chick (Mallory or whoever) is kinda flirty, even playfully knocking on “Ben Reilly’s” head, before Owen’s fanboy douchery gives him away.
But the real treat today, of course, is the sight of Les in panel 2, strutting down the hall in full Elizabethan drag! “Hey Mr. Moore! Nice Shakespeare costume!” “Why, I’m not Shakespeare, you dunce! This is a Francis Bacon costume!”
Occupy Westview
It’s easy to see why Les is so gung ho to get the school levy passed: somebody’s gotta come up with money to pay for his unlimited personal days. But what has become of Art Teacher from Monday’s strip? Having delivered his gag, he now joins the Village Booksmith guy from last week in the cardboard character recycling bin.
