Link To Today’s Strip
While I know a bit about the history of comic books, I’m far from being an expert in the field, so I’m just going to assume that somehow the Cleveland-based creators of “Superman” (REGISTERED TRADEMARK) were indeed somehow screwed over by those mean nasty impudent New Yorkers. Either that or TB is taking a shot at those “big city” folk, like how he’s always bashing “Hollywood”. Poor, poor Ohio, always getting “shafted” by those awful coastal folk and their decidedly un-Ohioian ways. But hey, at least they didn’t send her to Cincinnati, am I right?
Remarkably, Cindy’s plane landed uneventfully with no obvious fatalities, so I guess we’re to assume she is indeed Cleveland’s newest anchorwoman. One can also assume she’s going to spend the majority of the week bitching about it, too. Has there been a single arc so far in 2014 that DIDN’T feature a character or characters bitching and moaning about something? I’m gonna go out on a limb here and also assume that her first stop will be that f*cking town, although to what end is anyone’s guess at this point. But you can bet everything on this: whatever happens will be as uneventful and dull as watching paint dry (but at least with paint you can catch a cheap buzz off the fumes). No one can suck the life out of a premise like BatDrone can.
Well girl…. if you’d have a little hutzpah ya could have sued NYC big shots.
Next stop is the Diamond Club down in “The Flats”.
She’s lucky she didn’t crash and die (OK, so maybe not). I mean what’s with the airplane wing? It looks like some weird old biplane experimental configuration with struts and all ( and those aren’t flaps) What the h am I seeing?
Batiuk devoted a week or two to showing the childhood home of the creator of Superman, so dear god he has a problem. He dropped the ball on showing us a strip of Cindy getting the shaft in NYC. Literally, not figuratively, of course.
Is there anything Batiuk can’t tie back into comic books? The answer is yes, most things, but damned if that’s going to stop him from trying.
@TheDiva, this just in reading comic books causes cancer. CDC to quarantine Westview. Not because of the excessive levels of comics in the city, but because they’re just as sick of them as the rest of us.
@crm114, it’s been years since I’ve flown, but I think TB was trying to show the air braking a plane does on landing. However; I don’t recall the wing doing the job like he’s showing. I remember a plate moving behind the engines to send the thrust forward, I fact I think they were called thrust reversers. Again I may have this completely fouled up in which case I welcome any corrections from more knowledgable folks.
Since Cindy is comparing the creation of Superman and his creators getting shafted in New York to herself, is she telling us she was conceived in Cleveland? Cindy, I know your a reporter, but really TMI, TMI.
Thanks Pookster…haven’t thought about the Diamond Club in ages. Figured that itch has long been scratched. Your comment sent me to the website just to see what’s passing for entertainment these days in those joints. Just when you think you’ve seen it all…”Little Sassy Cassee?”
On second thought, I’ll just stay home…that’s a mugs game for younger guys.
If Cindy is working in Cleveland, that is a pretty decent rebound, IMHO. Cleveland is still a large city with significant new stories. Probably less competition in Cleveland which should ensure her a job. Not to mention she is probably a knockout in Cleveland standards as opposed to New York, the home of fashion models. I would be pretty happy if I were Cindy, considering I actually still have a job!!!
Yet another example of “TB doesn’t know how things work”. National networks don’t typically have the right to assign/demote their talent to affiliate stations that they do not own. ABC does not own affiliate WEWS-TV in Cleveland.
Well, at least Cindy is defying the trend of trains carrying jobs out of Cleveland.
Why does it not surprise me that Cindy, here, is intimately acquainted with the history of comic books.
Of the people you know, how many of them could tell you that Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster created Superman, and that DC screwed them over?
Everyone born in Westview is a comic-book geek. Of course.
First Chrissy now Cindy. Sigh. A Oh way to go Ohio!
Con – Cindy is whiny and annoying.
Pro – Cindy is not Les.
BC: Seriously, I mean as I stated above I know a LITTLE bit about comics but I had to look up the back story to know what Cindy was referring to in her whine. Everyone in the entire town is an expert on comic books and the history behind them. Yet the town’s comic book store is a weird, dingy repurposed old second floor apartment that’s almost always empty. It makes no sense, man.
Those are fully deployed flaps on the trailing edge of the wing. It gives the wing more lift at slow speed. Most speed brakes I’ve seen are the ones that pop open on the rear engine cowling, directing some of the thrust forward to slow down the plane. I’ve also seen slats rise up vertical on the wing surface for more breaking as well.
None of this is an excuse for the writing.
If we’re lucky Death from the latest Crankshaft arc will show up here.
