Rapidly Going From Bad To Much, Much Worse

Link to today’s strip

As much as I ordinarily despise Linda, it’s tough not to feel bad for her today. Her husband is off on some unexplained rage bender, her hair loss seems to be continuing unabated and on top of all that, Les is making his move on her. Look at him, ready to pounce on her during her moment of vulnerability, his hand perversely thrust into his pocket as he blatantly targets her…just repellent. And that rear view of Les’ head with those second-rate Paulie Walnuts wings, thanks for that, TomBan. Back when Bull was dying in front of him on the tennis court Les was flitting around and gloating in the most obnoxious way possible and now he’s pretending to “care”, what a sickening display. What. A. Dick.

    Linda, Consider yourself lucky.
Without Bull in the picture maybe you can now spend some time with your daughter Jinx….remember you have a daughter?….Tom doesn’t

The most unrealistic part of this strip? Two teachers still hanging around a high school hours after class ended. When I did after-school activities, my high school was a ghost town by thirty minutes after dismissal.

@Spacemanspiff85 – Agreed. Also, would any husband completely forget that his wife (who works at the same place he does and who he’s been married to for almost a quarter century) needs a ride home?

I don’t why Les is still on campus so late, and I suspect that I very much do not want to know.

However, I do know this, Westview High would be the perfect location to shoot Atari’s Breakout: The Movie. Well… perfect until Masone got ahold of it and had Pete re-write it as Arkanoid: The Movie, starring Cliff Anger as Doh. *sigh* Reading this strip even crushes my imagination…

I know that in the media, females are typically portrayed as a bit weaker and not as smart as men. Okay. (*shrug*) Fine. That’s just the way things are and have been for centuries, right? But jeez! I’m no feminist, but in the Funkyverse, they’re practically living puppets!

I can understand that Linda’s waiting for her husband to come, but couldn’t she have rounded up some fare to take a bus home or to the field by now? Or go back and tell the others what’s going on and try to get through to Bull that way? And why doesn’t Bull’s phone work? WHY is he so pissed off? So many questions, zero answers.

And why oh why is Creepy Les always the guy to be shown acting “gentlemanly” towards them? Les, a gentleman?! Look at Summer, who, when she appears is only around to submit to doing Lisa-related stuff. Look at how Cayla looks and acts these days compared to her first appearances. Les is always shoving her away for something Lisa-related. Remember how Cayla just sat there flinching at the wrath of Ghost Lisa (who wasn’t even like that at all during that ‘Les and Cayla kiss in the car’ arc) and smiling at the ‘awkward moment’ line which I will not repeat for the sake of decency? 😦 (How would Lisa have known that anyway?) And afterward robotically doing as the zombie bid and gave Les a kiss “from” her…fully resigned to her title of “Other Woman”.

And wow, I’m totally off the topic right now, aren’t I?

  6. This would be suspenseful if we hadn’t seen Bull smash his phone and drive off. And if this weren’t Funky Winkerbean, where everything is resolved in the most tedious manner possible.

  7. iansdrunkenbeard

    “Hey Linda…get stood up?”

“I’m not sure… I was supposed to ride home with Bull after practice…but he just drove by and gave me the finger!”

  8. Epicus Doomus

Merry Pookster: And he has the field goal-kicking daughter too, Mickey. I’m aware of Maddie and her two missing siblings, Rachel’s kid too. Isn’t there a Wally Jr. out there somewhere? And who is Rana? There’s a whole stable of missing FW kids.

I remember Jinx appeared very briefly way, way back when Jessica first started “getting serious” about becoming a film maker. That had to be at least four or five years ago by now.

  9. Great. Bull is angry and his wife is a sheep. What’s next to be checked off on the list while waiting for the stupid conclusion to this boring arc?

  10. The Dreamer

this is august, school hasnt started yet! what are les and linda doing there?watching band camp?

Dragging a two day story into a two week snore fest.

  12. So today we find out that whatever it is that is “up” with Bull doesn’t involve Linda either. Who else could he have been calling? Maybe he’s addicted to painkillers or something and was trying to contact his dealer for another fix. Maybe the answer has something to do with comics or Starbuck Jones. Maybe tomorrow we’ll go back to Durwood and Mopey Pete working in LA and never hear any more about this again.

Linda and Bull work in the same damn building, She’s probably already walked through to the Athletic Department to see i Bull was still around (otherwise how would she know he isn’t there?) Didn’t she ask one of the guys i they’d seen Bull? Wouldn’t they have said he headed indoors to cool off? Wouldn’t she have asked one of them to go into the locker room and see if he was there? And they would have ound the smashed glass, and the smashed phone, and then they should have been on the line to Westview PD to get an all points out on the truck.

Christ, the utter STUPIDITY in this comic strip is irritating AF.

  14. HeyItsDave

BTW, you’ve probably noticed from the above that my “f” key is kind of ucked up and doesn’t always work.

  15. Rusty

I’ve always hated those grey streaks in Les’s hair.

  16. sgtsaunders

    Thursday: Les makes his move.

Les is in the vicinity, so the specter of Masky McDeath can’t be far behind.

Well I spoke to soon. Buttman here is actually going to take action against Crankshaft. And it seems it will involve the United Postal Inspectors sending Crankshaft to a SuperMax prison for the rest of his miserable life.

  19. DOlz

@Epicus Doomus, the milk cartons in Westview must be huge to get all those pictures on them.

  20. Ray

In regards to Linda’s hair…I didn’t know a “Hard Part” was a thing for middle aged women.

    It is isn’t it??

  21. HeyItsDave

@DOlz – They’ve got so many missing kids in Westview that they’re even putting the pictures on cartons of orange juice.

  22. Professor Fate

And just how big can the parking lot be if she doesn’t notice that Bull’s car is gone?
One can only hope that Bull has finally snapped and is going to go kill Funky and then Les.

  23. Howtheduck

Les’ next line, “Cayla left without me too. What a coincidence!”
