Bull’s Out To Pasture

I admit it, I’ve always kind of liked Bull. How can you hate a guy who has a history of kicking Les’ ass? But beyond that, he’s always been the kind of “guy next door” that I might have been friends with…not too smart, but good at what he does; takes a joke pretty well; doesn’t carry a grudge or live in the past; owns up to his mistakes and takes the consequences.  And today, faced with a pretty grim diagnosis, he says “the hell with it” and decides to retire and enjoy himself while there’s still a “self” inside that damaged skull.

Best wishes, Bull. Hope it works out for you…even though I suspect your creator is going to eventually pull the rug out from under you.

The sad part is “the things we want to do” are all comics books they want to read.

I’m kind of hoping “the things we want to do” include beating Les until he fits inside a WHS locker one last time.

Uh-oh, does this mean there will soon be an opening at WHS? Because a certain former WHS basketball star should (theoretically) be graduating from KSU soon and might be in need of a job…hint, hint. And come on, Summer has “gym teacher” written all over her.

Coming tomorrow: when choosing a vacation spot, Bull and Linda settle on Delaware, as they figure it might as well be as uninteresting and unmemorable as possible, just in case.

So Bull retires to do things he wants to do? in a year the things he will want to do is hang around Westview haranguing the new gym couch. Of course this will be because TB can’t/won’t let go of the characters he started the strip with. Well he did once (sort of) and he’s been regretting it ever since.

Great. Bull will retire and be the new Dinkle, always hanging around the new coach and dishing out less-than-sound advice.

  6. Ah, well. As exits go, it’s kind of nice in a depressing manner. Weird. I thought that he’d be in the Dale Evans with Les, Crazy and Funky in Phase IV. I guess that spot is reserved for Dead Skunk Head now.

  7. The Dreamer

Bull and Linda will relocate to LA where Darrin, Pete, Jessica, Cindy and Mason already are– as Funky Winkerbean transitions permanently out of Westview

Yeah, Batty’s up to no good with Bull. What a shame, that coach had one day left till retirement.

Brillohead corrects Bull — “While WE still can.” He forgot to include Les, who doesn’t have to be told twice this is his chance finally to date his Work Wife openly.

  10. Not one drop of ink spilled regarding the kids on today’s WHS football team getting concussions. I wonder if BanTom is as self-absorbed as the characters he creates.

In other news, Cleveland.com ran a story yesterday about local cartoonists donating art to a local hospital. Surprisingly, Batty chose Dinkle to represent his strip as he said he was the most recognized character. I would have thought Ms Cancer and Les would be selected.

@Rusty Shackleford – I guess even he knows that Les elicits no positive enthusiasm in anyone.
