Happy Halloween 2016!

Link to today’s strip.

Hi folks, BChasm back in the saddle again.  Many thanks to HeyItsDave for a typically stellar performance.

Today’s strip was not available for preview.  I assume it has terrifying ghouls in it–members of the regular cast–so how about if I do the same?

…hey, if Tom Batiuk can shamelessly recycle things, gosh darn it, so can I!

Have at it in the comments, folks!

Yeah. After you kick it, you have to be around for them through video-turned-digital messages and sepia-toned scrapbook memories.

There’s some sad things known to man, but there ain’t too much sadder than…
Not having enough time before your memory leaves you to make friends that treat you better than Les.

I’m aiming for truth today, not rhythm.

Yeah, Bull’s “pal” Dick Facey, who just spent several hours making fun of how stupid he is and how lame his first name is. He’ll be better off forgetting Les, I certainly wish I could. I can’t believe he’s still milking this premise for laughs, like his slow agonizing deterioration won’t be so bad and will probably lead to some really humorous situations too.

And if he’s going back to Bull again this week, what the hell was the point of that Cindy stuff? The Sunday strip could have stood alone, so why did he segue into it that way? He never does that, so why do it now? Is there any conceivable way he could intertwine those two arcs or was it just one of those inexplicable things he just does sometimes?

Les and Bull played tennis regularly, apparently. That’s over, now? Les is never going to see Bull again? And why are they doing this on the football field, after the game’s over? I’m pretty sure the ceremony itself was at halftime, since the stands were packed. Did Les just make Cayla hang around until literally everyone else but Bull’s family left?

“There’s some sad things known to man, but there ain’t too much sadder than…”

It’s OK, they’ll meet up at that marge on Lake LeBarge………………..

  6. I’m reminded of the episode of PBS’s Arthur where one of the characters thought asthma was contagious. It could be that Dick Facey thinks that by being around Bull, he too will have a brain like a sieve.

Sheesh… Apparently, Bull is running late for his appointment to be hoisted upon a flaming raft and set adrift down the Cuyahoga River.

So, to summarize today’s piece of “art”:

P1: we will never see each other again

    P2: see you tomorrow

    P3: It’s funny because I have a brain injury!

I am convinced BatHack has not a clue how people actually speak to each other.

  9. Some “friends”… One’s a smug douchebag who almost got Bull to rage himself into a heart attack the last time they played tennis, and the other only wants to ridicule him for entering into the advanced middle age that she seems to be immune to (but not before she exploits Bull’s condition for an exclusive, award-winning profile on the internet news)…

Where the hell are Linda & Bull going, anyway? Are they actually leaving Westview? Are they heading to Centerville? Are they joining Masone & Cindy in California. Are they both going to swallow cyanide and die quietly under Lisa’s tree? Do you fucking care to establish anything here, Batiuk??

  11. The Saturday and Sunday strips were remarkably terrible. Why zoom out from the Bull-is-riding-off-into-the-sunset-leaving-his-memories-behind arc to Cindy sitting on a beach, then spending an entire Sunday strip on an unrelated conversation that has no punchline? And today we’re back to Bull and Les pretending to be friends and going sentimental. We still have five more days this week too. Are we going to have five more bad memory loss jokes? I’m beginning to wonder if maybe TB fell and hit his head on his Lisa statue or something.

Where the hell are Linda & Bull going, anyway?

When Bull said to Linda that maybe they should start doing all the things that they wanted to do “when they retired,” I figured that meant they’d take off out of Westiview for awhile and travel around doing all those things. Maybe they’re on their way to Mt. Rushmore or something. Maybe they’re going to take a road trip to New Haven to get a real pizza for a change. But they’ll probably be back, which is why Bull is – once again – reaching out to Les.

You know, if someone were to just read the past couple o weeks o strips, they’d come away with the idea that CTE is just some funny thing that happens to jocks that make them lose their memory. This is really typical of T-Bats going off half-assed about something he knows very little about. The initial memory effect of CTE is short-term memory loss – the kind of annoying stuff that makes you really bad at making decisions or planning for the near future. Tom also dances around or totally brushes off most of the behavioral issues, like mood swings and violent behavior.

With Linda by his side, Bull stands a fairly good chance of having a decent retirement for a few years. She can take care of the day-to-day planning stuff, and there are medications that can control the behavioral problems.
Retiring now and taking off for a while was a good idea (maybe it was Linda’s?) because there’s a strong chance Bull will develop severe Parkinson’s and, along the way, dementia that will turn him into a potato.

  13. The Dreamer

Bull and Linda will likely be moving to LA, as Funky Winkerbean slowly leaves sad old Westview behind (like Laverne & Shirley left Milwaukee behind for LA in its later seasons) and morphs into “Funky-wood: The Hollywood Years”

  14. The Dreamer

Or Bull and Linda will retire to Florida and live as neighbors with Tony Montoni, with Tony beating Bull in golf for a week of strips every few months
