Summa Cum Lame

Back to tha jokez in today’s strip, huh? Honestly, I’ll take it over the substantial ideas and awards panhandling we will undoubtedly return to shortly.

Still, if this is Wally’s best material, I can see why Adeela is not especially comfortable around him. And on another note, it is nice to see a food and beverage business in this strip other than Montoni’s.

I don’t know why Batiuk keeps writing “Person A tells a ‘joke’, Person B doesn’t find it funny, Person A tells them it was a ‘joke'” so much. I mean, it’s probably just “write what you know”, but it’s still weird.

Wally better hope that his coffee wasn’t on the Dean’s listeria…

At CK we have to work around the Latin word for “with,” Qum what may.

Aren’t they going to the library to work on the unspecified project? What library allows food? I’ll go with the idea that it might be permitted in a specified area but not around the reference materials or the computers.

College libraries allow food. They conceded it was a losing battle, especially with high priced private schools where they desire to rope the putative alumni in for a lifetime of donations.

Some libraries allow beverages if it has a lid. 40s are right out, though.

I think that Batiuk was going for reserved and uncomfortable with Adeela…but she’s actually coming across as stoned if not brain damaged. Also…tons of stimulants sound like a great diet for someone suffering an anxiety disorder.

Yeah, the first thing any Doctor will tell you is to cut the caffeine if you are suffering from anxiety or having panic attacks. Some relaxing tea is ok, but no caffeine.

  6. It’s like he’s channeling Lynn Johnston. She thinks that people who aren’t native speakers of English get her bad puns too.

It’s funny because, being from an unspecified but presumably Islamic background, she is unfamiliar with wordplay and coffee. Get it? Well, then forget it!

Yeah, that’s what you do when your joke falls flat–shout, “FORGET IT!” in exasperation at the person you’re talking to.

Wally’s expression in panel three had to be drawn by TB looking in a mirror after reading us dismissing his attempts at humor.

It’s probably the reaction most Westviewians get when they leave the “friendly confines” and interact with normal folks. “Answer me with a pun one more time m*therf*cker, I dare you”. This new Adeela character is just BURSTING with personality thus far, eh?
