Today’s strip we find
Both Adeela and Wally
Uncomfortable
“And being around
A lot of people tends to…
freak… me… out…” – Wally
Wait, was not Wally
Just in a crowded classroom?
Seemed OK at first
Plus there was that time
He subjected Buddy to
Monsters of Metal
Rache called that concert
His PTSD final
So I guess he failed
Adeela, of course
Was also in full classroom
Uncomfortable
Crowds freak Wally out
How can he run Montoni’s
When Funky hands off?
Ha ha ha ha ha
Crowds at Montoni’s? c’mon
I crack myself up
It’s like a children’s book…a book for the “behind” reading group. “Wally doesn’t like crowds. Adeela likes being around people. They are different”. He’s obviously going to flog this premise for the rest of the week, then lord only knows where it’ll go. Maybe it’ll turn out that Wally used to frequent her Uncle Achmed’s gyro stand or something, but somehow I doubt it’ll end up being that interesting.
Mmmmmm, Gyro!
More likely his kahlkalash stand.
Is Wally morphing into Fred Fairgood? He may be ambulatory, but he looks lost.
I would not be shocked if this arc doesn’t end with Wally’s first act as assistant manager being creating the “A-Good Adeela” pizza special, which would probably have pork on it.
And it would come in a special box, with Muhammad’s smiling face on it instead of Montoni’s.
And he STILL didn’t offer her a drink!
She takes two steps forward
He takes two steps back
They work together
Cuz the writer is a hack
And he knows lots of fiction
But no PTSD fact
So they work together
Cuz the writer is a hack
BRILLIANT!
Given the crazed look in his eyes is his next line “You talkin’ to me?”
The anachronistic army fatigues, close cropped hair, wire rim glasses framing a thousand yard stair and long pauses between words, all in combination, indicate that backing away slowly and alerting the professor is Adeela’s most prudent course of action.
“thousand yard stair Hah! Did I ever mention that, among other things, I’ve edited copy for a living?
Well, at least he won’t be triggered at Montoni’s owing to its being empty most of the time.
“I get freaked out in a crowd… sorry, I have a touch of dyslexia. What I meant to say is, hanging around with Funky, Les, Dead Skunk Head, Crazy Harry and the like, I want to get out of that crowd of freaks!”
So, I don’t think this has been discussed yet, but the images in the Sunday strip show Wally patrolling a street, while Adeela and her mother (or is it Adeela and her daughter? We can never figure out based on the Escher-esque timeline who it’s supposed to be) are cowering in an empty room, hoping to avoid being spotted. Was that image just supposed to show some back story of each person as some justification for their current behavior, or is there more going on? If that is indeed Adeela in the room, will she at some point remember Wally as the soldier in that encounter? Will we ever know why she’s cowering, and what exactly Wally was looking for? Are we ever going to move past horrible puns and mutual freaking out?
No.
