Link to today’s strip

Thanks for having me back. I’m always nervous that I’m going to get stuck with weeks of Dinkle typing in silence when it’s my turn here, so I guess this is better.

I’ve got two issues with today’s strip. I would really, really like to know why Hammett thought Brinkle was covering up for someone else. It’s basically the core of this whole lame “mystery”. Somehow a jury found enough evidence to convict him, but Hammett found evidence that he didn’t do it? Gosh, that sounds almost interesting.

It’s also very funny to me how this never came up once in the documentary Cindy already did on Cliff. It’s like if you did a documentary on some random old football player, and then a year later he just casually mentioned how he had proof that O.J. Simpson was guilty and never mentioned it before.

“Disquieting thing…never told.” No! Must resist…the urge to make…puerile sexual joke! Ah, what the hell.

Panel #4: “Alas, I was one of those who succumbed to the charms of Zanzibar! I do declare, there were times I was so lonesome I sought some comfort there.”

Boy does Batiuk love his recaps. Another day killed on the march to death, Anyway, almost every interview I have ever seen in this setting has two cameras operating, to capture both the faces. And usually a third, to pull out and show both people side-by-side.

    A regular Cliff hanger.

So many accessories to murder, so little time!

  5. Here is an astonishing yet much accomplished foreign scammer who snuck into SoSF by via throughways in marmalade hotpants. Please to send money!

I’m interested to know how much dough we’re talking about? And is it money or pizza dough? The mind boggles.

Can you be an accessory to murder if the murder was (allegedly, speculatively, based on hearsay somewhere between 60 and 90 years old) committed by a chimp? Asking for a friend.

The storytelling ineptitude on display here boggles the mind. Hammett believed Brickel was trying to protect someone, but never told Cliff who he may have been protecting? Then what did he share with him? How’d that conversation go?

“I believe Butter was trying to cover for the real killer, Cliff.”

“Wow, how interesting. Well, see ya around!”

I mean WTF? They spent the day interviewing Cliff for that?

  8. I bet that when Cindy did her first documentary, they accidentally mailed a blank tape to the Emmy committee. The committee promptly declared it an “avant-garde work of genius” and gave it an award.

Actually, I bet when they made the first documentary, Jessica forgot to start the camera, Cindy forgot to ask questions and Cliff forgot to talk.

“Hmmmm, well, there WAS this one disquieting detail I’ve kept under my hat for EIGHTY YEARS…”

Butter Brinkel looks down from afterlife angrily, shaking his fist. “ANNNNGERRRRRR!!!!”

Once again, we’re reminded that Batiuk has no idea how to write a murder mystery. He was on thin ice with the Plantman but now, he’s jumping up and down on the ice like a maniac.
