Whale Meet Again

Oh thank God, no basketball.

I strongly suspect that today’s strip was originally supposed to run last September. Mainly because Mr. Moore is assigning his language arts class their “first book” of the year…a week before the beginning of spring? Also because said book is Moby-Dick, which you’ll recall figured in Maddie’s plagiarism arc six months ago. I’ll let this go, though, knowing how much Batiuk hates it when his readers pay more attention to his strip than he does.

…Is TB gearing up to tread on Pat Summitt’s turf with his craporiffic “storytelling”?

A tip of the SoSF tinfoil hat to The Ridger for that very prescient comment from over two months ago! Today’s strip is also notable in that the girls’ roster has expanded from seven to eleven or twelve (the girl to Bull’s right wears a shirt with no number and might be the equipment manager).

Don’t forget to check out TB’s latest blog post on the official FW site!

Because She's Dying!

I read today’s strip and suddenly had a hunch as to why TB chose to elevate second-stringer Ann Fairgood to such a prominent role. It took her years, but Fishstick Annie has gone from equipment girl all the way to assistant coach of the (Division III) State Champs! Her life is now complete. Now she’s taking a mental picture of the empty arena. Next month: Ann visits the doctor and gets some very bad news…
