Could Be A Movie Deal Here

Anyone waiting for some sort of Bautikian demise for Coach better stop holding their breath; no, from the look of today’s strip we’ve got at least a few months of “Unlikable loser no one likes teaches coach a few things about football, and, in turn, learns a lot about life.” strips coming down the pike. Now, if Jerod is supposed to be the new coach’s assistant or new quarterback I couldn’t tell you, but prepare to wallow in 80s high school movie troupes that’ll culminate with Jerod being crowned the Westview Homecoming King.

Not bad for a 30 year old who still hangs out at school!

What Does The Coach Say?

Hey, that title is topical! Topical is automatically funny, right? I’m sure hoping so, as we continue to plow through this Sahara Desert of comedy in today’s strip.

I almost wish TomBat would have “tackled” the issue of high-school concussion-related injuries “head-on” instead of what we just went through!

Okay, the fact the team is terrible aside, today’s strip got me thinking: Do they even make clothing for amputees?

The first thing I stumbled on was a Zazzle site, maker of fine coffee mugs and keychains, that showcased amputee humor. A lot of people far finer than I am have lost limbs for a variety of reasons, and it’s refreshing they seem to have a sense of humor about it. Still, I just can’t imagine pinning up a sleeve every morning. Why go through the trouble?

Ah well, at least the pinned-up sleeve is someting consistent in this strip.

Never Forget. (That the Scapegoats Suck)

Ya know, a SMALL nod to the event that changed the course of America might be nice. This is the funnies, of course, it’s not like I’m asking Garfield to stare sullenly at an American flag for three panels but it’s a little off that a strip that deals in melancholy as currency would pass up the chance to remember what happened on this date in New York City over a decade ago.

No such luck. Instead, today’s strip is just a time-marking daily grind forward until the next real story arc. Even the telephone pole and goal post weigh in on the current situation with some of the most weirdly-spaced dialog balloons since Mark Trail!
