Drag 'til You Drop

Lesser Whark sez: “The complexity of drag and drop is only justified if you might put the ingredients somewhere other than on the pizza.  Montoni’s: the only pizzeria where you can order pepperoni in your soft drink.”

Sensing Tony’s technophobia, Darin proceeds to just flat-out just fucking with Tony’s head.

Lesser Whark again: “These two strips [Thursday’s and today’s] contradict each other.  Does the app just direct people’s browsers to the Montoni’s website (a waste of an app, especially given their discussion on the 25th)?  Or, does it replace the website, as described in the second strip?”

Funky and Tony look to be about the same age. ……Except Tony is supposed to be 20 years older than him. –Riff Chick

Could those glasses be any less masculine? It’s like Funky borrowed them from Dame Edna. –David O

I like Funky sporting those Al Davis Granny-Glasses chains again. –sourbelly

Oh yeah, those Funky glasses are just too much. Looks like he just got back from bingo. The guy ages in dog years. — Epicus Doomus

To me he looks at least twenty years older than Tony, who at least is standing up on his own. –Miskatonic Sophomore

Considering Funky’s usually being looking seventy-eighty-something lately, maybe this can be seen as an improvement. –John

Just how does he plan to ‘get’ that app written? Will he write it himself (lots of time), or contract it out (lots of money)?

Apparently, there’s a third option: pull it out of his ass. Darin unveils his (useless and totally unnecessary) mobile app for Montoni’s pizza. Tech-savvy though he may be, Darin has yet to learn that folks in Westview are a little touchy about distracted driving!

I just hope White Minivan Cell Phone Girl (if she survived, that is) doesn’t start fooling around with her pizza apps while driving and end up sending someone else hurtling through time.

(The whole time I was writing this post, I couldn’t get this song out of my head: “Goin’ Mobile”, the Who)

Oh dear. I’m an iOS developer, so Darin is speaking about a subject very close to me. Is this how zoologists feel about Mark Trail every day?

So began a well-informed and well-liked comment on Thursday’s post, wherein Lesser Whark proceeded to dismantle TB’s portrayal of MBA slash pizza-shop manager slash webdev genius Darin. Since the saga continues to unfold this week, I’ve asked Lesser Whark to lend some more of his insight.

LW: “I can’t comment on the technobabble in the first panel, but hopefully you have another reader who can.” My Googling tells me Darin’s probably referring to the Common Short Code Association, who assign numbers (“short codes”) to which an SMS or text message can be sent. Or the Ohio-centric Batiuk could be giving a nod to the Columbus Society of Communicating Arts

LW: Wrong: you don’t host the mobile barcode scanner app on your own site. Instead, you link to the app store for their smartphone.”

The punchline (not shown here) has a clearly overwhelmed Tony wishing for “the good old days” of about five years ago. Outta the way, Pops! We’ll have more commentary from Lesser Whark as the week goes on.
