Gotta hand it to Batiuk today. I would have thought that this “fatwad goes to the gym” arc would have played itself out after a panel or two but here it is, Thursday, and it’s still as fresh and hilarious as it was on Monday. Granted, the bar was set rather low……

Oh, hold on a second. At first glance I thought that was Mephistopheles himself, about to summon Funky on down to eternal damnation and all. But nope, it’s just a cynically smirking Fitness Girl wildly arching her eyebrows, presumably in bemused disgust at Funky’s pathetic punchline. I hear that, FG. But better be careful making those faces, if she gets stuck like that she’ll be banished from everywhere BUT Westview and no one wants that.

  3. I hate these “Day in the Life of Tom Batiuk” strips. Les climbs a mountain, Dinkle attends a music conference, Les goes on a book tour, Funky joins an athletic club. He really can’t think of anything to do with the other characters that don’t work as author avatars. Again, show me Summer struggling at college, not whining about it on the phone.

  4. Tom Batiuk’s complete inability (or unwillingness) to consistently draw attractive women is astonishing. Look at panel 3.. Is that supposed to be a young woman or the world’s least successful drag queen?

     

  6. I guess it had to be a minute for the sake of what appears in place of a punchline, but isn’t planking for a full minute fairly good for an overweight older guy?
