Ugh, Elmer Fudd shtick
Does Bull think folks are saying
Wife’s name, not “window”?
So many cinder blocks
Blocks for days, a great gray void
Not unlike this strip

My ability to find adjectives to describe how incredibly shitty this comic strip might be waning too. Then again, the English language is a finite resource, thus it could be a case of simply having used all the appropriate adjectives already. In any event, the batiuksturbatory wordplay continues unabated today, but at least it looks like the damned football team is finally about to take the field. So I suppose it’s something.
Imagine how hilarious this joke would be if this assistant, only previously briefly and silently glimpsed, had established his Elmer Fuddness, and Bull had been established as oblivious of this fact.
…no, no, still not funny. Sorry.
…..
Is it just me, or is Bull’s question really oddly phrased? Like obviously in a way that could get that lame response, instead of asking “How’s it look outside?” “Or how’s the storm look?”. Like, is there a storm inside too?
*snore*
What’s that storm doing outside? Why, placing his bet on the opposing team, naturally.
This just in: Bull is still stupid. You may now go about your daily business.
I have no idea why Batiuk is laying it on this thick. If the Scapegoats lose, then won’t the team and school take it out on their mopey, chicken-livered coach? He’s clearly dragging down their morale and even the thickest observer can see that he’s nothing more than a parasite.
And if the Scapegoats win… then what was the point of all of that fake-self-effacing whining? Would that be his attempt at an ironic twist ending? If so, it’s certainly doesn’t rise to the level of O’Henry. It doesn’t even rise to the level of Act 2 Funky Winkerbean.
It would actually be more surprising if the weather turned out to be pleasant and unseasonably mild. “Oh no! It’s not raining! There goes our game plan! (points to rubber raft with Scapegoats logo)”. But as this comic strip has no ability to poke fun at itself whatsoever, that could never happen. You think they’d be prepared for inclement weather given their forty years of experience in the field but they always seem dismayed and surprised by it, like it was just totally unexpected. Every single time. The idea that bad weather is just inherently funny trumps all in the Funkyverse.
1) It’s never the fault of the depressed, out-of-his-depth ignoramus coach and his boundless ineptitude that the Scapegoats lose because today’s youth care about things that upper-middle class white guys hate.
2) Batiuk thinks that bad weather is funny and lacks any sort of sense of fair play so can’t have people be prepared for it. Somewhere, there’s a bad weather person who hates watching Bull blame his team for his failure, bad pizza and the mind-numbingly stupid ideas that littered Silver Age DC Comics.

Let this strip be a dismal lesson of your prospects if you fail to save enough for retirement while you are still young.
Ah, but there is a value to this strip that justifies its existence. It’s proof that we can never underestimate the depths to which a failed creator can sink. There is no bottom of the barrel for him because he’ll just keep digging.
Bull should be more concerned about the grid-like discoloration that has broken out on the face of al least one of his players.
What’s wild is that Crankshaft is doing the same Batom Inc. trademarked wordplay all this week. TB must have found a shoebox full of unused gags about a year ago.
Even if you excluded Crankshaft, No one on the comics page commits vocabular homicide half as often as TB.
@ Epicus Doomus (yesterday)
A cast of thousands and he has to interject Les into the proceedings every single f*cking time he can. What, was the bearded dick’s reaction crucial to the joke or something?
Since Less More is Batty’s avatar, I think this proves that Auteur Glorieux is so damned narcissistic that he has to insert himself into his own comic strip so he can laugh at his own joke.
What the hell is Doug Funny doing in Funky Winkerbean?? And coaching football? Weird crossover.
