* yawn… ι(´Д`)ノ

Oh…sorry… it’s just that today’s strip is more of the same “Wabbit season!  Duck season!” crap between Tony and Funky and it’s, well… not very interesting.

Poor Wally, though. We can just turn the page or (more likely) click away. But he’s stuck there in Westview, the comics version of Purgatory, standing helplessly by in his gaunt and so weary way as the two Morons in Chief discuss using toys to deliver pizzas.

You know what would be cool? If Funky had secretly fallen off the wagon and suddenly started getting the DTs while looking at that stupid drone:

    “Wouldn’t it be funny if Tony decided to buy a pizza delivery drone?”. Why yes, Tom, it could indeed be funny…IF the idea was in the hands of someone with a sense of humor, joke-writing abilities and so on. Too bad it isn’t, though.

    If TB had an editor, this is probably how most of their discussions about the direction of the strip would go.

    @Epicus Doomus:
    Almost everything Batiuk writes about has real potential to be funny, if it was written by someone who gave a single crap. So many of these strips seem like they’re written in another universe where humor doesn’t exist or something. When I first saw the pizza drove I thought of the turkey helicopter episode of WKRP, which was hilarious.

  4. “Well, Tony, the first problem is that it uses modern technology. As we have been told repeatedly by Les Moore (PBUH), modern technology is completely evil and can only result in failure. Which reminds me–it’s Wally’s turn to man the rickshaw for these deliveries.”

    Does Batiuk really think “Mr. Can’t Do” is funny? I bet he does. I’m pretty sure “Mr. Can Do” isn’t even a thing, so what on earth makes “Mr. Can’t Do” remotely funny?

  6. On this side, Funky being berated for realizing that Tony’s irritating toy could barely hold half a breadstick. On the other, Cranky being suspicious far too late and at people who ARE trying to help him.

    So Batiuk’s MO in these strips is to come up with a dumb idea and spend the rest of the week talking about how dumb it is.

    Once again Batty is following his usual course of “Tell, don’t show.”

    As god as my witness I thought p̶i̶z̶z̶a̶s̶ this crap could fly.

  10. Looking at the scale of this contraption, it appears that the footprint of the drone is about the size of a pizza box, so that when a pizza box is actually attached to the bottom, there will be no lift from the propellers since they will be directed into the pizza box. The other possibility is that they put the pizza box on top of the drone, but that will block the intake of the propellers. Either way, all Funky needs to say is “Show me how this fucking thing is supposed to work” (which he could have said on Monday) and we would be in for some comical drone-flailing.

    The WKRP comparison is apt, the jokes in this strip typically hit the ground like sacks of wet cement.

    So it was Montoni’s that started the Robot Holocaust, not Skynet. Huh. Who would have thunk it?

    Though to be honest a nuclear holocaust would do the Funkyverse some good.

    I won’t lie, I may try to get a Crankshaft bobblehead if I am in the area? I’ll keep you guys posted if I do. Anyone else thinking about it?

    Maybe I can videotape me and the Mrs. burning the thing in the grill. LOL

  14. Does Tony even still live in Florida? Or was that forgotten in favor of needing a target for “people older than me are stupid” (Batiuk’s second-favorite topic, after “people younger than me are stupid”)?

    Crazy Harry knows that it started when myTunes dictated his Real Bona Fide Serious-As-All-Get-Out Listening List.

  16. The drone isn’t controlled by a robot. It’s controlled by the horrifying result of an earlier experiment in pizza teleportation…

    “Durr hurr hurr! Technology sure is stoopid, innit?”
