Gorilla Marketing

Hi all! SosfDavidO here with a pain in my neck from trying to read today’s strip sideways.

Hey, hey, it’s a monkey! A gorilla to be more accurate, drawn by a man who ape-parently only has a basic understanding of what a gorilla looks like.

It’s true, though, gorilla covers on comics sold a lot of issues back in the day. TomBat isn’t the first to notice the phenomenon of course, but I have to wonder, Tom, if you’re going to do a throw-back gorilla cover, why not the simian golden age equivalent of Freebird by revamping the infamous Jimmy Olson marries a gorilla” cover?

This is what Gramps was reading, kids.

    “Kid Kidd”? Are you “kidding” me? “Mason Jarr” and “Cliff Anger” are brilliant in comparison.

    This kid writes comics, right? So why is he getting tips on drawing a cover?

    “Before he was the Arizona Ranger… he owned the jacket Kelly Leak wore in The Bad News Bears in Breaking Training.”

    I still get the feeling that we’re supposed to view Wentworth is an overbearing dimwit, but TB keeps undermining that by making him the one who hatches all of Batom Comics big ideas.

  4. The sad thing is that Batiuk only thinks that this is a stupid idea. I would probably buy the book if only to see what was going on.

    There is something both stupid and clever about a gorilla dressed as a cowboy – by the by that Superman cover along with a lot similar ones inspired the website ‘superman is a dick’ (superdickery.com) . And again these are the kinds of comics that the Author prefers to say The Fantastic Four battling Galactus .

    @Professor Fate,

    Thanks a lot for mentioning superdickery.com, that’s a couple of hours of my life I’ll never get back! No seriously thanks for mentioning it I’ve added to my daily website check list.

    Thanks for the upright J. O. cover. (See what I did there?)

    I would also buy this. Gorilla + Gun = Awesome

    A gorilla shooting guns is way more interesting than anything that’s ever happened in this strip.
