Thirtieth Ballot Hall of Famer

I really don’t know what’s even supposed to be funny here. Which makes it just like 99% of the rest of Funky Winkerbean for the last five years or so. Bull has nothing to do with what? Nominating himself? If he knows that was other guys on the team, why didn’t he say anything about being nominated, since he apparently already knew? Also, I don’t think random teammates are enough to nominate something to a hall of fame.
The funniest part of this strip is the fact that the poster so obviously says “Go Scapegoat” rather than Scapegoats which is just sad.

  1. Sometimes if you just stare at one of these inexplicable FW strips for a while you can sort of figure out what it’s supposed to be, but it’s not working with this one. Why is Bull denying involvement with and apologizing for the nomination? Are these “guys” he’s babbling about real or is the CTE finally kicking in? Is there more to this story than meets the eye?

LOL of course there isn’t, which makes it even weirder. I don’t get the joke here at all and I’m not even sure if it’s supposed to even be one.

        1. Yep, that’s the joke. Football players are so lame, not like those suave, sexy,English teachers.

      1. Thanks for explaining. I never would have gotten it.

Not only does Bull mistake induct for indict, I guess it’s supposed to be funny because a lunkheaded ex-jock would think a high school hall of fame has the power to indict anyone.

  2. “Induct/indict” could be confused in print. They really don’t sound all that similar though. Maybe “some other guys on the team” abducted someone?

    1. But we are supposed to be amazed and feel sympathetic towards Les, who dances with himself on New Year’s Eve . Awww, he is so dedicated to St Lisa. What a maverick.

  3. The most pathetic person is Batiuk. He makes a two-foot putt in order to avenge himself on his betters, he misses and yet he refuses to understand why people hate-read this mess.

  4. Keep malapropism gags in Crankshaft and Family Circus, please. Or off the comics page all together, if possible.

  5. I still can’t believe “indict/induct” is the joke here. In that context Bull’s reaction is sort of creepy.

    1. “But I didn’t do anything wrong!” would be the expected response here. Obviously Bull’s been keeping silent about some horrific crime for decades.
