Usually when we see the students of Westview in a classroom setting, their facial expressions suggest boredom, stupidity, or lack of sleep. This morning, however, they are all smiles: not only is Mrs. Bushka letting them watch TV, but their hero, hell, everyone’s hero, Mr. Moore, is on the Today show! Judging from the image on the (black and white?) TV, his interviewer is neither Meridith nor Matt. The snarkers who suggested Les would be relegated to hour four of the Today show were right: only Kathie Lee would be dumb enough to flub the title of the book her guest is there to promote. Her classmates’ smiles turn to looks of disbelief, but Summer takes the indignity of hearing her late mother’s name misremembered in stride. She responds not with outrage but with a smirk, and with another entry for the Batiuktionary!

Meet Mike Moore

The Delicate Genius is being squired around the set of Good Morning La Jolla by some guy who likes to give advice. Les’ interviewer (is that Colleen Dewhurst?) is unprepared to the point of not even recognizing her subject. Didn’t she skim through the book while driving in?

Given the way he carries the torch for his late spouse, and that he’s there to talk about the story of her losing battle with cancer, Les’ “this is my wife” wisecrack is disconcerting indeed.

I’m Bad, I’m Nationwide

Les is in mad demand. The Widow Darling has heard of Les’ success and wants him for the “Today” Show. Les’ friends are beside themselves with glee. Susan appears to slip her hand into the back of Les’ skull and work him like a ventriloquist’s dummy.

If it’s any consolation, the Puppies Behind Bars arc should kick in after next week. ‘Til then I’m sure we can look forward to more gritty, true-to-life New York street scenes, and maybe cameos by Matt Lauer and Meredith Viera, drawn so you can’t tell them apart.

Everybody Loves Les

The reviews are starting to come in, and naturally, they’re “good wow”. Kent State University Press may have to add a second shift to keep up with demand.

Yawn.

Talk to the Chair

“Author” Les Moore needs to fire “Publicist slash literary agent” Ann Apple, if the best she can do is arrange interviews like these. Gee, do you think “Ron Radio” is his “DJ name”? Pretty clever! I though Ron Radio might be modeled on Eric Bogosian in the movie/play Talk Radio, but I’m sure I’d be giving TB too much credit.
