(Sn)ugly Baby…

DavidO here, with a strip title swiped straight from a Seinfeld episode!
My ponderings about how little Skyler would look close up weren’t answered in today’s strip and that’s a good thing. Someone needs some SERIOUS practice with baby faces and heads. And arms legs and torsos. Thankfully blankets can be an uncertain artist’s best friend but the strip is starting to remind me of the opening Austin Powers routine, except with Skyler’s face instead of Austin’s willie. I mean, seriously, what is that supposed to be in P2? It looks like they’re fawning over a potato. Tombat better get to some real world life-drawing classes in soon or start stepping up his exposition even more to accommodate for his art.

Tuesdays With Snorey

Guest Blogger DavidO here, reminding you that I have the reins this week; TFHacket didn’t suddenly get really unfunny.

So here I am, with the unenviable task on snarking on the parents of a newborn baby! I might as well be twirling my mustache and kicking puppies while I do so, but on with the strip!

“He likes it when I rock him to sleep,” says Jess, showcasing some amazing parenting skills in today’s strip. Is that going to be the theme of this week? He likes to eat when he’s hungry. He falls asleep when he’s tired…

So far, we haven’t seen much of little Skyler other than in faraway shots. Tombat is not known for drawing babies, I’m very curious to see if we get a closer look at the lil’ guy and just how weird he’s going to look.

It’s Hep To B A Good Dad

Moving forward at break-neck speed, Darrin is already old-hat at diaper changes and taking care of little Skyler, who, thank the gods, appears to have his mother’s nose from the looks of things in today’s strip.

Bonus Nonsense strip!

And again, I’m no parent, but I do take a common sense approach when it comes to handling raw feces while eating. The FDA’s official stance on the matter is: “No, never, geez, what are you, stupid? OMG, that’s so gross!”

Hold On, Darling

Yay, another flashback to another character having a baby!

Can I just say, my viewpoint is coming from someone who doesn’t have kids. The closest I’ve been to an actual delivery was watching a video in 8th grade health class on child birth. I’m not trying to discount the wonder of having a baby and the whole bringing a new life into the world and so on.

My only question is, what is Tombat actually bringing to the table here that’s new, or even amusing? Other directed? What does that even mean?

Today’s strip lack of sepia tone actually is the one thing the strip has going for it. It’s much better than the weird photo-album border of flashbacks past. I just wonder how this new baby is going to effect things like age continuity. Will Skyler catch up with little “perpetually four” Robbie?

Back at Montoni’s Already!?

Welcome to the world, kid! The whole damn thing smells like garlic and stale bread. Poor Skyler. It’s almost unavoidable from the looks of today’s strip that he’s going to be a 20 year old dishwasher at Montoni’s, destined to have his wife deliver her baby there, too, shortly after they have their wedding there.

Does anyplace exist in Westview at all any more?! Why is this strip not called “Montoni’s and Moore” ?!
