Book of Excuses

Off book” is when an actor or actress no longer needs their script to rehearse a play or performance piece, having memorized the work.

Thankfully nobody involved with the Starbuck Jones movie has invoked any kill fee, and the project has made it to the rehearsal stage. This affords Mason the perfect excuse to blow off The Coming Reunion. Cindy, love Mason though the does, is perfectly fine with not having to compete to be the center of attention, as you just know she’s been at every other reunion.

Les’s brother Wes Moore makes a cameo appearance in today’s strip!

Hills, that is…

It would appear that everything TB knows about California comes from watching the Beverly Hillbillies. Today’s strip, in fact, literally depicts “swimming pools… movie stars”.

It took a week’s worth of strips for Mega Comics to fire Pete and a single classic “tell don’t show” moment for some Hollywood producers to all but hire him? Ugh. If it takes a week of chicken jokes to get the script finished, let’s all hope legendary script doctor Larry Gelboo is involved.

Monday, May 11

billytheskink here, back for my third non-consecutive fortnight of guest weblogging. Today’s strip was not available for preview, so we’ll have to all be unpleasantly surprised together. If we’re lucky, maybe we’ll get a month-long break from the usual schmucks and watch Mr. Clean repair the band box, gear by gear and piece by piece.

A Blush with Destiny

It is rather sad how Cindy, who apparently lived in New York for over a decade, and Cleveland over the last year or two, has made absolutely no friends from either of those places and instead has to talk about her life and career developments by walking into her ex-husband’s pizza place and talking to him there.

Holeee… SHIT! What is happening to your face?” Her simpering expression is enough to suggest that Cindy’s being coy; those halftone dots and pink shading are overkill, making her look battered instead of demure. And as Charles pointed out, does she have no one to confide in save her ex-husband? Lastly, Cindy’s ingenue bit is getting old: yes, Mason Jarr is a movie star, but Cindy enjoys (or used to enjoy) some degree of celebrity; she’s not dating that far above her station.
