It’s developing rather slowly, natch, but we see his week’s plot begin to take shape: “dyed-in-the-wool fan” John, not content with merely possessing advance knowledge of the Starbuck Jones plot, is compelled to disseminate it online. It’s the only way this overgrown adolescent, alienated from the affection of his busy wife and running an unprofitable comic book shop to support two children who are not his own can be made to feel alive.

Starbuck John’s
Hitorque

…Stills? Seriously? Any real comic geek would have long since downloaded a choppy, post-production print just to see what scenes didn’t make it into the final edit…
What Hitorque says makes sense. I’m no fervid fanboy, but a buddy of mine once showed me a bootleg, pre-release rough cut of X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Some of the SFX had yet to be added, and you could still see the wires and harnesses on the stuntmen performing jumps. It was kinda cool. But is piecing together a movie’s plot from stills really a thing? How does one determine “the correct order”?
Still Crazy
Despite an erratic and inexplicable production schedule, it looks like buzz is building for “the upcoming” Starbuck Jones movie to the point where the first images are being leaked online. Crazy Harry should know better than to think he’d have the “scoop” on ultimate fanboy John, who has managed to automate the process of gathering these treasures from the web. I can’t goof on DSHJ too much, as yours truly has a Google Alert set up that notifies me of online mentions of “tom batiuk”, but hey, it’s my job.
Hmmph.
Well, I have no idea what’s going on in today’s strip. There’s no preview available, and apparently Comics Kingdom is having some problems with Advance Digital, which hosts a number of newspaper websites like nj.com (New Jersey), masslive.com (Springfield MA), the Cleveland Plain Dealer, and so on. CK just isn’t displaying any of their comics on Advance sites, though rival GO! Comics is doing just fine.
Anyway, Saturday’s strip will eventually appear on comicskingdom.com, the syndicate’s home site. We’ll catch up with the snarking in the morning, and I’ll post an edit then.
Saturday AM Edit:
Ha! Funky’s always busting Tony’s cogliones for having stupid ideas, and today he finds that payback’s a bitch. So what it it probably cost him five hundred dollars to win a hundred-dollar bet? He gets bragging rights and Funky looks like a dumbass on The You Tubes.
And lest we forget, a special award of One Thousand Internets goes to spacemanspiff85, for his prescient comment on the 24th:
Dr DUMB
Dead Skunkhead is back from ComicCon and he’s eager to show off his latest purchase; a needlessly huge statue that’s going to scare the daylights out of Becky every day for a few weeks until she gets used to it being there. From the sounds of things in today’s strip John didn’t exactly get Becky’s blessing.
No more kids!? That’s a little dark. Did they have kids to begin with? Forgive me for using track but kids in Westview are props pulled out during turkey sales and whenever someone is moving into the apartment above Montoni’s.
