So much for “we…and I emphasize the we“, huh? The mercurial Phil Holt is content to just sit back and let Flash lay out the Subterranean universe for the rest of the team. Pete immediately sees a crossover opportunity involving an existing Atomik property. Ruby is at her desk, clearly craning her neck to get a better look at Phil Holt’s ass (“Flash” Freeman having left his ass in his other pants). Mindy looks on, saying nothing (and, ok, spoiler: she won’t be given anything to say all week). In the middle of all this, Chester thinks “Did we order a pizza?” as he is startled to see Wally enter stage left…oh, wait, that’s not Wally, it’s Darin, wearing his nerd glasses.

It is only at today’s strip where I finally realize the true meaning of Free Comic Book Day. I get it now. It’s not a day where free comic books are given out. No, it’s a rallying cry. A desperate plea. Comic Book Day must be freed from the clutches of these unbearable shmucks! Free Comic Book Day! And Free Holtron while we’re at it!
Also, Logan Church is here now. Such a sad turn for the once-accomplished business blogger. You could drive a semi-truck through her earrings.
Today’s strip deserves all the oys, head shakes, groans, and boos that it gets. Even Durwood’s attempt at lampshading joins in the dopey wordplay (and I use that term in the loosest possible sense).
I’m not sure what is more remarkable, that Pete and Durwood exhausted their creative energy and all they could come up with is a gender-swapped Human Torch or that Mindy is sure a gender-swapped Human Torch is THE THING that female comic readers have been waiting for.
Hi folks! I’m billytheskink and here is the link to today’s strip. Much thanks to Epicus for taking us into a a new year of the same old. I’ll try to take us through the next two weeks of the same old. Hmmmmm…
And so we return to Atomic Comix… where everything remains as it was in 2018. The comics are still lame, the smirks are still infuriating, all of 3 people still work in its decrepit multi-floor building in central Cleveland, Pete and Durwood still actively avoid doing work (they haven’t finalized key details of a named character?), and Mindy still shocks the comics industry by being female.
Well, Pete has traded in the traveling green shirt for an ill-fitting Han Solo costume. That’s new.
